If it doesn't work properly with the firewall turned off, it might be compatability issues with Sp2 and not related to net access at all. Check for an alternative version of bearshare, or try a program that notes it does work on sp2 (Shareaza is a good program that works on sp2 and that connects to same networks as bearshare and even more. You can also set which ports you want the program to use to easily configure ur firewall/router)
