Thread Starter
Just bought a new Acer Travelmate 4501WLMi and figured I'd post a couple of pictures (as a way of saying thanks for all the help this forum gave me).

It's a great machine btw. Great value for money...

Muchas gracias.

Sweet laptop! Definitely please post impressions/review.

Does the 4501wlmi come with bluetooth built in? I know it has the button for bluetooth, but I am not sure if that button actually works. Can anyone who has this notebook confirm this?

Great pictures!

It does not have bluetooth built in and I contacted Acer to see if they sell something to add internal bluetooth to make use of the button, but I haven't heard back yet...

Thanks, please get back to this thread if you find out anything, I am really interested. In the IBM laptops the modem daughter card has to be replaced (to a modem/bluetooth CDC) to get bluetooth capability. Maybe this works for Acer as well???

Here's the email they sent me:

Dear Mr. Maxwell,

Thank you for contacting Acer America. Although there is a button on the notebook for Bluetooth, the TravelMate 4501WLMi that ships in the US and Canada does not ship with a Bluetooth module on the motherboard. Therefore it does not support Bluetooth as it ships. In order to get Bluetooth, you will need to purchase a third party device such as a USB to Bluetooth transceiver, or other external device that provides Bluetooth capabilities. These type of devices are available at most computer shops that sell options and accessories for notebook products. We do not plan to implement an option to install a Bluetooth module on the motherboard.

Respectfully,
Bernice Craig

Thank you for sharing this information. It sound like the typical "unsupport" we are used to. I am sure both of us knew that we can buy third party USB or PCMCIA bluetooth adapters. But what use is the bluetooth button on the front of this machine??? I get frustrated when technical support dismisses us like dummies.

Anyway, I'll try to look into it and get back to you if I find out something.

Does anyone with a TM4501 have taken their lappy apart yet? Any idea where the bluetooth module should be?

I have the 4001WLMi (same as 4500 series but comes with bigger HDD and screen size, but only has XP Home and lacks the multibay) and it shipped with Wireless LAN b/g. The BT button is there, but once u press it says "No Device" due to an ACER program.
I suppose u either have integrated WLAN or BT (but two buttons).

I dont have that problem in this 4001 wlmi model... every key works fine ! But you can get em "click" if you carefully do up and down move on your fingers on the key.

The euro and dollar keys are useless near the arrow keys... i dont know why they put em there... I keep pushing those things all the time

APO that's good to hear. Is it supposed to be some kind of ergo thing? I hadn't noticed it before in my research and it struck me as a little funny. I guess you can adapt to anything though, given enough time.

Hi...
I was looking a bag for TM 4502 (similar to your) but my notebook dimension and on ACER site is diferent!
What is dimension of your 4501?
Thanx

Wow, i've never seen a keyboard that looks curved/bent like that. That is odd!
Nice, I like that keyboard, its interesting. I would like to get the feel of it someday.

That notebook looks very similar to the TM 8100. It looks kind of like a scaled down model. That price in the $1400 range looks rather nice though. This review praises it rather highly (though their 3dmark score in 3dmark03 is about what the 8100 gets in 3dmark05). Here's the review I found:
http://reviews.zdnet.co.uk/hardware/...9170612,00.htm

Nice looking computer, I'd be interested in a full "notebook forums user" review myself.

Oh, and Thinkpad, don't worry, the curved keyboards that Acer uses in some of their notebooks are great. I've never had a problem hitting the wrong keys or anything on mine, and they look good as well.

well i have long crusade trying to put bluetooth on my acer *Travelmate 4402WLMI and got some missleads and also interesting information.
(the port is visible under the lcd cover be carefull removeing it just to make a test it did not need to desarm all the thing up any way i did it at first time just was curius to know.
1. The cable you can get it on ebay around 22 usd. *be sure to buy a 12mm cable i got it from fixwireless seller on china. I forgot to say that is on the case of the TM 4400.
2. HP have a similar BT module. From 1.1, 1.2 and 2.0 BT.
3. Windows will only see the module like a unkwon device (i try it with HP 367871-001 part number it is a 1.2 BT broadcom chipset).
4. The blue light will turn on if you have something near a module and it will see on the Button software one it say always off on grey now it is a option.

Regarding if is a Hp or acer board there is at least some way to make it work. The unsupport way to awnser the questions by acer just makes me doubt for real if they not support BT. Also there is a jumper panel under the keyboard. On what i wonder for what is the use. Maybe the Motherboard is made to not id any board at all and changeing the setting it can bring some results. Any way will make some other test with more diferent kinds of modules to see if any works at all.
