Thumbs up for Acer service

I know there are a lot of posts out there that flame Acer service so I thought I would post my experience with them.

The screen on my 8003 started showing areas of non-uniform color so I called Acer service and got the authorization to send it in. Called on Tuesday, sent the laptop Wednesday night, laptop was sent back to me Monday night, arrived with a new screen on Thursday. All shipping paid by Acer.

That's cool. Question though. How did you send out the laptop to them in the first place? (did you pay to ship it, and then they reimburse you, or did they do some way of paying for it upfront and you never having to pay anything? If it was reimbursement, how exactly did that work? Or did you just get the store where you bought it from to send it to Acer?) As you can tell, I'm quite unfamiliar with the procedures involved in getting 'repairs'.

I'm real glad you had a good experience. Where exactly are you, and did you phone Acer international, or Acer USA or what? (I'm pretty sure there has got to be different divisions of 'support', depending on what area you live in, so it would be good to know which one you had a good experience with.)

One last question, how old is your laptop, and what kind of warranty did you get with it?

Darn, that's a first. Glad you didn't need to jump through hoops like the rest of us. Maybe someone is listening?

I think it's still too late for me to ever consider another Acer product though. Glad it worked out great for you.

I am in the US, and I bought my laptop from PCTorque about 4 months ago. I just have the standard 1 year warranty, and an additional year because I bought the laptop with an Amex card (although I am not sure how many hoops I will have to jump through if I ever need to use the Amex warranty).

After I got the authorization to send in the laptop they sent me an email describing how to pack up the computer and how to fill out the FedEx airbill.

I never paid a penny, just had to drop it off at FedEx (they also offered to have FedEx pick it up).

With service like this maybe I should buy an additional warranty from Acer.

One thing that really helped with this whole process was the fact that I registered my laptop with Acer when I got it.
