will this work?

hey i wanted to buy an external HD, bu the i found external HD enclosures and they are way cheaper, so yeah i dont know much about the ahrddrives, so will this:

Don't see why it won't work...
However I'd suggest you get a Firewire enclosure instead. I've heard that although USB2.0 has a higher burst rate (480mbps) than Firewire (400 mbps), the sustained data transfer rate is faster for firewire.
Get 8mb of cache if you can, it will yeild better performance. Cache is that small chunk of ram on the hard drive. It's much faster than the read head, so if you do try to access it, it's much faster. The rule of ram still applies: the more the better.

Mmm thats strange about the USB2.0 vrs Firewire issue - I have heard the exact opposite: that USB2.0 is both busrtable AND sustains a higher continuous throughput than firewire...

However, I have not been able to test this.

I am also interested in setting up an external HD, so if you could post your findings here I would be very grateful.
