built like a rickety shack
Yours is really that bad. I haven't had any problems with the build quality or strength of my 8600.

No it's not THAT bad. Just fueling the perpetual fires
post #23 of 51
Its already hot enough down here in Australia

Build quality isnt great .... but even IBMs feel a little sloppy sometimes .... my M60 and 9100 feel and look fine .... although I wish they would put the XP and Centrino stickers on straight .... might start a thread on that
post #25 of 51
Xing want an M60... But I LOVE my 8600, so it's all good.

My stickers are straight.
I don't have a Centrino sticker on my 8600! That's not fair. lol. I have a xp sticker and a pentium m sticker and it's not put on straight either! lol

You mustn't have the Intel 2100/2200 Wireless card then. It is only a Centrino if it has the P-M processor, 855 Chipset and the Intel Wifi card. You must have the Dell Truemobile instead.
Ok, well i did'nt add a wireless card when i ordered my 8600. So my system is'nt a Centrino? I thought all 8600's were? What would be the chipset i have then? And the Dell Truemobile? What's the difference between centrino and truemobile? lol
post #29 of 51
Centrino is an intel marketing ploy. To have a "Centrino" laptop, you have to have the following:

1. Pentium-M Processor
2. 855 Chipset
3. Intel PRO/Wireless 2100b OR 2200b/g

Truemobile is the name of the Dell Wireless cards. You can get he Truemobile 1350 which is a 802.11b/g card, or the 1450 which is 802.11a/b/g. The Truemobile 300 is the bluetooth adaptor.

Id buy Dell (again)

Have been very pleased with my/my wifes 1150. Many comment it is a budget book that lacks in performance. As far as I can tell, this thing is capable of being a desktop replacement. I have to say the integrated video sucks at times, but you cant complain for the "Bang for the buck" factor.....
My sister just purchased an i1150, and it should arrive tomorrow. I will post opinions on it when it does, along with a shot of it with my 8600 (I love this laptop!!! Its fantastic!)
Absolutely! People easily underestimate Dell machines in general.
I've never had a problem with Dells, they're great and i'd continue to buy them. And i'd have to agree that they do get underestimated.

Dells are great, I have 3 lappys and Dad has a Desktop, all brilliant reliable machines. Even my 2 year old 8200 kick butt against some of the newer lappys the guys have here at work (I mean in the graphics department... eg 3d mark 2001 & 2003)

The 9100 blows them all away, and I haven't even upgraded to the 9800 video card yet...

You sure have alot of lappy's Rob. lol

Lots of lappy compensates for having no life.....

I actually gave one away two weeks ago, (old pentium 200) otherwise it would be 4... sad huh!
Lol@no life! Do you use each and every one of your lappy's or do you just get the next hottest thing when it comes out? lol
post #38 of 51
Actually, I do use them all, I have the Inspiron 5000 beside my bed for late night web surfing (wireless lan in the house)

I use the 8200 as my road warrior, when out and about, and I leave the 9100 at work now, use it there for web surfing and game playing (my job is 90% waiting around, 10% working...)
Sounds like a good job! I could only ever use one at a time. I like to have all my files, my Outlook PST file, my favourites and to have the most powerful system at all times. I couldn't work out a method to use two, let alone three, laptops at one time. I might consider a desktop and a laptop, but my 8600 is so powerful, I can take it anywhere and have all the power i need! I love my 8600.

Money well spent then Rob if you make use of them all!
