I first discovered this forum around a month ago when I first started looking for a new laptop. I was leaning towards a Dell 700m, and decided instead to go for a Fujitsu P7010 after going through these forums. It costs a little more, but worth it IMO in terms of portability and battery life.
My first impressions:
- This thing is so tiny and light! It's soooo cute...and I'm perfectly comfortable just resting it on my chest while lying on the couch. Oh, and it can fit inside my purse! Can't say that about too many laptops.
- Screen is gorgeous! One of the main concerns I initially had was whether a 10.6" screen would be big enough for me...and it is! I just love the glossy screen, and it looks great even if I turn the brightness down.
- Battery life is great. Used it with brightness turned up to go online and install programs, and it lasted around 4-5 hours. It's just so nice not having to lug a power cable around.
24 hours later:
- Still happy with the screen. One of my friends got a laptop this small, and was saying that it caused a lot of eyestrain for him...but that was with an older model laptop. I think it helps a lot that the display for the p7000 is very crisp, and the viewing angles are pretty decent. I went online for like 4 hours straight and I was still okay.
- Getting used to the keyboard. At first I had trouble with the "." key, because it was smaller than what I was used to, and I had to reach a little bit. I'm getting used to it now though, and even for a touch typist like me, the keyboard really isn't bad for such a small machine. They make efficient use of the space they have.
- Tried watching a DVD. Popped in my Spiderman DVD...gorgeous! Justifies my reason for buying a widescreen laptop.
A few days before I finally decided to get this one, my coworker's Dell 700m arrived. After testdriving his Dell, I realized it was too big and heavy for what I wanted, especially with the bulky extended battery. This was the dealbreaker for me. I wanted the ultimate in portability, and lugging around a power cable and big battery doesn't seem to justify my getting a laptop. I also considered the Sony TR series, but it was just too pricey, and I liked the look of the Fujitsu better.
Performance when going online or watching video is fine...not bad for a machine this size. If I wanted to play games or encode video, I can always use my big desktop with my 21" monitor. I got the model with the 40-gig HD, more than enough for me since I store all my files on my server anyway. I dunno if I would enjoy this laptop if it were my only computer, but as a second or third, it's perfect.
I would highly recommend the P7010 to anyone looking for a great ultraportable computer.

Love that glossy screen!

Looks great with my mini mouse...

Our old Dell looks huge and clunky next to this one.

Yay...fits in my purse!

Yup, it does!
