I had wondered when/if you'd find this board You seem to have some very good tweaking/overclocking skills as your scores for each of the laptops you own are among the highest I've seen in 3dmark.

yea....

I always wondered if I were the only one buying these juicy laptops...

I don't care what anyone says about them, they are powerfull, cheap and Juicy!

clevo laptops are some of the best in the world I think.. i discovered this forum by accident.. sure wish they would notify users of it when you buy a Sager.

For my next project, I'm gonna modify this laptop like I did with my 5620 (wife uses it).. With that laptop, I removed the aluminum plate beneath the P4 heatsink. It's not very big, and fairly easy to remove. Once taken out, the Radeon is revealed. I always figured with proper heatsink and a fan, it would be able to raise up quite a lot in MHZ .. turns out this was the case, the R7500 in the 5620 easily rose up to 310 without a fan on it... with a fan, i got it to 339ish.. thats the high 3dmark score I got on the Madonion site. The instalation of a fan and its wiring inside the laptop is complex to explain. but actually easy ~8) ... I dont use the fan, in fact i removed it. The heatsink alone made an enormous difference for the R7500. The Video chips are near the P4 heatsink, but not overed by it. If you fashion a heatsink to fit in there, it will work MUCH better than that dumb plate. So I figure sometime after my warranty runs out on my 5660, I will do the same. It seems to respond nicely to overclocking. Just cant go very high due to the poor cooling for it. (or actually No cooling on it). With the exception of the goofy aluminum plate (spreader), there isnt any cooling. The plate is supposed to spread the heat, but i think the P4 heatsink actually warms it up, as the plate spreads all over under the P4's sink. Sure the fans pull air from above and below, but still its kinda lame..

Re: yea....

I don't have first hand knowledge of the sager models however your theory regarding the ineffiency of the P4 heatsink seems quite plausible from the pics I've seen. I don't know if the heat build up is significant but your tests using a more efficient heatsink seem to prove otherwise. I as well as others on this board I'm sure (especially beebster ) would be very interested in getting more info on your heatsink solution of your 5620. Would you be able to post some pics as well?

You ROCK Spire!

I just downloaded new 6218 drivers from www.s-seven.net and they installed like a charm.

Ran 3DMark and got a 6922, about a 100 pts higher than before.

Then I ran Powerstrip to o'c my core to 260 (from 250) and my mem to 180 (from 170). Got 7209.

I had never been able to o'c my R9K before the new drivers. even w/ a move like that I got lines on my screen... but not now for some reason.

Thanks a bunch. I'd be interested in finding out if you could add a core heatsink and/or memory heatsinks to the R9K in the 8886.

Hey, adding over 400 pts could make a dif in a game like Morrowind or GTA3

Thanks again.

don't have it yet...

Haven't had the pleasure of GTA3 yet... but I plan to. I just mentioned it b/c I heard it was a resource HOG.

There have been some other posts about making the game run smoothly a while back...

I just had to restart the game and it allowed me to change the resolution, playing it at 1280x1024x32 no problems. Didn't try any higher.
