Inspiron 8600 touchpad replacement

Hi all,

I have a friend who spilled beer over his laptop's keyboard and touchpad. Some of the keys on the keyboard are not functioning, but I think we can get a replacement from dell (right?). However, can we can a replacement touchpad from them? If we can, how do I go about installing the new touchpad? I know how to remove the keyboard, but that's all I can get to.

Any help will be much appreciated

We just had a D800 touchpad replaced because we thought it was defective. Turned out it was just an Alps .

Anyways the touchpad is integrated with the palm rest and the top of the laptop, and requires nearly disassembling the entire thing. Anyone reasonably handy should be able to do it, but figuring out the part number might be a problem.

So that's what the innards look like...

Nah, that is just the underside of the palmrest. The 'innards' would constitute some of the compnents would they not?

Right, but how do I go dismantling the laptop to this stage? I know enough to remove the keyboard only... Thanks for the replies so far!

Being lazy and in a hurry doesn't hurt either.
