A matter of opinion..but I need one

Hello again,

A couple of weeks ago I bought an Acer Aspire 1681 from Newegg, and for the most part I like the notebook..except for the fact you can't get a better battery for it. The one it comes with is a 2200mAh and lasts 2 hours max. This system is a Centrino and I figured I could get another or better battery, but a call to Acer tonight told me that there is only 1 part number for a battery, and its the one I have. Anyway, unless anyone knows different, I am thinking of returning the notebook or selling it on eBay, and would like to know what you guy's think of the Asus M6BNE and where you can get one barebone without getting jipped? Also, does the keyboard work well? Thanks!

The Asus is very, very good. If you buy one, you won't be disappointed. It seems you need battery life and, with the M6BNe, I'm almost sure you can last something like 7-8hours with a second battery. Very good build quality (it's Asus), good system, infrared (i think). 64mb of vram, but this is not bad in most cases...

There lots of users here with this model (B means widescreen and the e means ATi MRadeon 9700). ask one of them (zlatanov has one, IIRC).

The asus keyboard is very nice. I've been using it consistenty +8 hours a day for many months. When I go back to my desktop, the keyboard ( logitech Elite) feels clunky ( compared to the lappy)

Stock battery on Asus can get you almost 4.5 hours life, as always it depends what you are doing with it. Be alot better than what you have, I doubt you would need the additional battery. Depends what you need.

The Acer Travel 4501 uses the same chassis and have a 8cell battery. the battery is available at buy.com for $140 and it is listed in the description as for 4500 and 1680 series

Personally, since I know several guys who work for Asus in Taiwan, iw ould never buy an asus notebook. Mostly because they tell me not to. I would still take one if I was offered one for free.
The engineers I know all had prototype notebooks with mini pci and mini agp slots. stuff that never sees the light of days outside the labs usually.
