So happened with getting Bluetooth in the CL56 - Page 2

Oooh, 40$, does all the fun BT stuff.. we may have a winner here. I like this. Nice research here guys!

So... whos up first on this? Anyone vouch for boteq, are they reliable?

I am excited for this one. Now if I can pick up the logitech dinovo (or whatever) BT key/mouse combo for around 100$ (yeah, I am dreaming) I would be happy.

If someone can back up a reseller for that billonton card, I will order it and try it out. The manufacturer shows only resellers outside of the US though, at least from what I could tell. That ebay sales place looks pretty shady, no real contact info but an email.

Anyone?

hahah the whole point of the thread kinda went off course toward pcmcia but thats cool if it works.
I may be getting an echo indigo soundcard though, so pcmcia is out for me as an option. I only have a cellphone that is bluetooth enabled. I was just curious if after all this time an internal BT solution was found or not, guess there are none.

Oh, sorry for the hijack gnome. Me n Kronos have been dying for a fully recessed BT option, so that is as internal as we can get. My laptop has a door over the PCMCIA slot, so the card has to recess all the way.

Anyhow, apologies for the hijack. On a seperate note... I may order one of these today. I will tell y'all how it goes, on another thread.

no apologies necessary, if the pcmcia card is as internal a BT device as we can get on these notebooks then thats pretty much on topic.
I could have sword some guy said he had internal bluetooth a week or so back on his CL56 though, I think he got it overseas, or he lived overseas, or both, I forget.

really sorrrrryyy, i just got excited hearing about a solution under $130 that would work!
I know there is some sort of bluetooth SD? card for handhelds, but i'm not sure if there are windows drivers. There was one made by toshiba i think. that might still be an option. I think i ruled it out because it was on the expensive side, stuck out a little(4mm maybe?) and i wasn't sure if there were windows drivers.

I just did it. For $41, hard to go wrong. Even if I have to drill a hole in my door for the antenna, which I may not, it might just fit.

If it doesnt- I own a drill, and a dremel. Besides, only really cool PC mods involve case dismemberment anyhow.

I will post more info in review section later, assuming www.boteq is on the up and up and sends it out...

read this thread and look at the standard options part.

Standard Options
Internal 802.11g Wireless LAN Mini-PCI interface
Internal 802.11g & Bluetooth combo card Mini-PCI interface
Build-in Digital Video Camera
Notice anything!?!?!?!?!
Yup- thought that would happen.

BT and 802.11b/g both sit on the 2.4mghz band. Why cant a radio card do both?

Bout time. I ordered my fun part anyhow.

If these come out en masse, and cost close to what the intel b/g cards do - around 35- I will be replacing mine eventually, ebay the billonton.

Crap, before it arrives its outdated. Welcome to the tech world, I guess.

Good catch kronus- real good. Nice.

usually if a non intel wifi card is installed in the cl56, the on/off switch for the wifi will not work completely right, so those other brand wifi cards may not be worth it
post #37 of 46
i dont have an intel card in mine anyways, so the switch doesnt work. i live without it.

I don't know if it helps you but I live in Germany and ordered a CL56 with internal Bluetooth. As it arrived I noticed that there was no Bluetooth in it. I called the shop and they said that they don't have it ready to send but they will send it when they have it. A month later it arrived. It was a Billionton module with a modem in it and with an antenna. So I opened my notebook and replaced the modem with this Billionton module and put the antenna in the display where the intel 2200bg wlan antenna also was. It all worked fine except for the drivers at the beginning because win xp used these m$ drivers and not the ones that came on the cd that was shipped with it. So I changed the driver manually and now all works fine.

Does anyone know where this internal Billonton module that Jaykob mentions might be orderable in the US?
You can always get the 3Com Bluetooth PCMCIA card. It's antenna can fold COMPLETELY inside. You can use it like that, and while you won't get the 10 feet (Or was it 10 meters) max of bluetooth, you can probably get enough for a cellphone or mouse. Don't take my word for it though, I don't have one.

You can grab one on ebay. You can find them for $45 or $49 on buy-it-now, if you're lucky.
