Mobile workstation : Quadro FX Go700 - Page 2

Alright! What to do plan on using it for? Why the Quadro over the Geforce... I'm seriously considering this computer for college as well... I'd rather have the power of the P4, but I don't want the weight... I'd be intereseted in how well (or not so well) the centrino performs under heavy loads.

Cool hope you like it!

You guys will rape me for this comment, but I went with the Quadro because of the lack of availability of the Go5600 (in a machine with what I am looking for) or the M10Pro. I need a machine now...and want the 128MB directx 9 compatibility, and performance of the 5600Go. I have chatted with Quadro users on other boards and expect the card will do very well in gaming. I too wanted the power of the P4, but I don't want the weight. Also the 7 hours with two primary batteries on the M60 is very attractive while in school.

You won't get any grief from me, I'm having a hell of a time not doing the same thing for the same reasons. The only thing helping is that I think the 9600pro will beat the Nvidia offerings quite handily. That and my 8100 allows me some time(wish I would have gotten an IBM this thing although not an entire POS hasn't fared nearly as well as other systems of similar age.)

That's a good thing you have the 8100 to buy you a little bit of time. Unfortunately I have a PII 400Mhz Inspiron 3500 with 2.5 of integrated video RAM that belongs in the garbage. Can't wait to for my M60 to arrive.

Dell made the purchase hard to pass up by mating the latest 128MB directx 9.0 card, 7200RPM drive, integrated 802.11g, beautiful slim 1.5" 7 lb chasis, and P4M processor so that I have 7 hrs of battery life with two main batteries. Not only that but I saved over $720 on the purchase!!!! ($200 online purchase discount, $200 MIR, and $320+ off with a 10% stackable small business coupon)

BTW, I think you are right about the 9600Pro taking the performance crown. If you can afford to wait for it I would.

Some geforce models can be converted to quadro functionality, but it takes more than just loading drivers. There's a hack called SoftQuadro which can patch nvidia drivers into thinking a geforce is a quadro, depending on model.

Go to www.guru3d.com and look for the "Rivatuner" link for complete explanation.

jyoung, congrats on your very kewl purchase of the M60, it's a really impressive system!!!

I've been tempted to go for the M60 at one point, but then rather daunted by the sticker price and so was considering the Toshiba 5205-S705 instead.

But now that you've mentioned all those Dell discounts & coupons, I'm re-considering things...

Can I ask how one can go about getting similar discounts?

Also, what's the estimated delivery date that Dell is giving you on the M60?

Thanks!

Well here's the deal. Dell changes their special deals on their website every Wednesday night at midnight CST, and by about 5:00 a.m. CST Thursday morning they are completely updated on their website....

So this week (starting July 3rd), if you purchase an M60 you get an instant $200 online and a $200 mail-in-rebate. On top of that you will see that their optical drives are discounted alot (for example I got the DVD/CDRW combo for only $30, but it's not an "advertised" special). As you probably know, you can also save alot of money but buying the minimum configuration of RAM and then buying 1GB through Crucial. To get the additional stackable 10% small business coupon takes a little more work. Go to the dealcatcher forums and there is a thread where people are posting all the latest Dell one time use coupons http://forums.dealcatcher.com/tm.asp...ode=&s=#74003. Or you can also drop by the fatwallet forums http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/cate....cfm?catid=64. It takes a little patience but you can usually find someone who isn't going to use their stackable coupon who will post it on-line for free. If you get desperate you can always pay $5 as people are willing to sell them. Once you have the coupon just go to the configured system you have in your cart, apply the coupon code, then go to checkout. Walaaah! You will save a total of approximately $750 dollars, which to me was a 23% price savings.

Oh and shipping! Dell told me when I purchased on July 3rd that my system would ship July 21st. Well I logged on to order status today and my system has already gone through order processing, pre-production, kitting, build, testing, and is now in boxing!!!!! Looks like I'll be receiving the 128MB nvidia card and 7200 RPM hard drive all within a week, way ahead of schedule!!!!

thats awesome jyoung. just FYI though. when dell says 'boxing', they really mean 'we are shipping your system from or assembly plant in malaysia to nashville where we ACTUALLY box it'. regardless, you will have it much before the 21st.

Thanks again so much for your tips & help, jyoung!

I'm moments away from ordering mine, managed to find 2 coupons for a total of 15% discount, only downside is the $200 Instant Rebate can't be applied when using these coupons.

For anyone interested, keep an eye on this Dell Forum thread where someone who just got his M60 has been posting his findings including ongoing benchmarks...

More Appropriate in Dell Forum?

Just wondering if this particular thread should be in the Dell section rather than here?

Though the subject refers to the Quadro FX, the discussion thus far has been focused on the Nvidia's implementation in the Dell Precision M60...

My thoughts exactly. Well, it's moved to the DELL forum, but I left a link in the general.
