ALX X2 Information

Now dont quote me on this, but i just had a chat with ALX Sales over the phone and this is what he said MIGHT be happening (again, dont quote me on this).

1) the AlX 51 X2 will be comming out near the end of october (he speculates)
2) He says i could expect it to be anywhere from 6,000 to 7,000 dollars with the
video array.

3) He also mentioned a price drop on non-Video Array ALX systems.
4) He did mention 2 New ALX Systems being available near the end of october.

Also, anytime until my order ships, if the price drops, I will be credited with that. Good news for me. I dno if anyone knows this, but it was good info for me.

Dont hold me responsible for this info, im pretty sure its accurate, however it was his idea and speculations and not official stuff. Hope this helps

To add on, he said the video array COULD cost itself betweek 1,500 to 2,000 more.

I would guess actually 1,200 grand more. I mean, 2 video cards are about $500, and then you have the merger hub and the rest of that stuff. we'll see come end of october.. I just wanna see benchmarks.

I cant wait to see what it all comes out to on 3DMark 05... Maybe the X2 could break the 10,000 barrier on that. Heh then in a year with new cards it would be kicking ass.

That's plain stupid. It would be smarter to buy the ALX X2 with two Xeons and one 6800 GT. Then later you can get another 6800 GT and get NVIDIA's SLI Bridge.

So sorry, i meant to say that with the Video array (which he said included the X2 Mobo and dual Xeons) he said it would be 1500 to 2000. Sorry for the mix-up. Thing is, u can do both SLI and Video Array on the X2, since all PCI-E 6800 GT's - Ultras are SLI capable. the 6800 Ultra is very CPU Limited in the video rendering, hence dual Xeons seems fair.

Since Alienware has it's proprietary "Video Array" does that meant they are turning there backs on nVidia's SLI? I mean for the money extra for Video Array on an ALX, you could build a whole other computer with SLI and dual cards.

well 2 6800 Ultras is gonna run you 1,000 bucks no matter what. nVidia doesnt have the PCI-E version of the 6800 Ultra out to retailers yet... only OEMs that i know of. Also, you have 2 Xeons which is about 500 - 600 bucks more. Thats about 1,600 - 2,000 right there. A home built solution aint gonna make that much cheaper. Also, you CAN use SLI because the cards are PCI-E, which means they have the SLI slot on top... so you can really do Video Array or SLI Theoretically, unless Alienware had disabled that. nVidia wins either way, because Alienware is buying their cards in the first place.

And that's IF you can find a 6800 Ultra. Most online retailers are usually out of stock.

More reason for me to go Alienware. I mean, if I can get SLI and Vid Array in one system, thats awsome for me. There are many other reasons why im going ALX, but thats just one of em. Its all a matter of preference.

What I mean by SLI in the same timeframe as Video Array is the nForce 4 SLI will be shipping by late October early November according to current news. So you don't need two Xeon's, you could run it on as little as a single A64 3000+ (Winchester core).

You dont need 2 Xeons either, but since the 6800 Ultra is for the most part CPU limited (Meaning you need a ****load of CPU resources to render video fast) having dual Xeons only makes sense. One CPU could not handle 2 6800 Ultras smoothly. Im not so sure about X800's, since you can use any video card with video array, unlike SLI which limits you to only nVidia. This brings me to another point, what if you spend alot of cash on a system with SLI and then 4 months later ATI has the fastest card. Can you put it in SLI? Nope. But again, its all money and opinion. Im goin with the X2, but i see what your all saying.
