and u were right .. i found an USB 1.1 port but not soldered fabrically in .. near the square .. and i will write instructions how to solder it in .. to be just like from a fabric ... but the rest - i mean "from where get the tumb scanner" or else devices which you may want to connect and put in the place of square - i leave you all .. its your choice what you'll want to connect there .. i will ofcourse search from where get the scanner but i don't promiss ;] i give u a USB Port near the square - it's a gate for many options ;]]

ok .. my Camera broke up so i'll try to show how to do this in words

step 1 . u must to take out from your lappy the part which in are the power button and the square to do this .. take out yo keyboard unscrew the aluminium part under the keyb. and take off the element with led's and pwr button and THE SQUARE

step 2 . look on the place where is the square .. near the square on the green circuit board there is a place named JP x[ x is the number - it depends what model of sager u have] in there are 4 pins .. those 4 pins are the USB1.1 to use it u must to solder-in the connector just like this from "lid closing detection button" but not with 2 pins but 4 pins ..

step 3 .. u must tu search biometric pad using usb standart .

i know it's a little bit messy but without fotos i can't show and tell u much .. but in my lappy it works .. i connected there a hdd to check if it works - and it really works ;]

I'll wait for someone else to try this...

You should also post all the info about voiding warranties, etc. that this will undoubtedly cause.

i tried - works .. now i'm lookin' for biometric module .. it ofcourse voids varranty but i don't have anymore the varranty for my lappy .. THE usb IS there and i Was running on this usb a hdd under usb .. it works fine .. but to solder in the port to this place is not a problem - a problem is to find the Biometric module for usb that will fit the place ..

I don't know the size of the hole on the 88XX but it look like one of those biometric could work... http://www.authentec.com/products/entrepad.cfm

I also found a post with diagrams of the 88XX biometric install. http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=33325

Yeah, I think that's the same scanner unit that's in the Targus usb reader. This may just work!

EDIT:
My problem is now taking off the piece with the fingerprint 'indent' in it - the one with the power button/hotkeys/LEDs. I took off my keyboard yesterday and didn't see any obvious way of getting it off. Anyone know how? Maybe someone could post pictures?

Pyro,

In that diagram looks like there are three screws along the front edge (under the F keys ont he keyboard). Looks like those 3 screws come out, then the plastic piece should slide forward and out. This is something id really like to add to my lappy, i wish you all luck in figuring it out!

PS: Im fairly new here, could anyone post a link to that thread that describes removing the keyboard and such?

!!!

Lol, thanks sloeit, I didn't realise all that stuff was attachd to the plastic board. I was afraid to slide it forward in case I broke the LCD power toggle switch

Anyway, I got it off and took pictures of what I thought noder meant.

I just don't have any webspace to post them at Anyone want to host a couple images? It's only 156kb.

Ok so next question... does the usb fingerprint scanner have the same little usb connector as the LCD power toggle switch? Noder, you'll know because you've done this! Also, what USB fingerprint scanner did you use?

EDIT: Sorry soleit, forgot to answer your question. I don't know if there's pics, but all you have to do is press down the little self-latching buttons in between the top of the F-keys and that plastic piece. Push them in then lift up a little bit so it's not latched. On the 8890 they're right above the F1/F2 split and the above the "/" key on the number pad.

Pyro,
Thanks for the keyboard info. Does that ribbon cable slip out? or is it permanently attached?

Also, the link to those biometric scanners above shows the discrete scanner, not attached to a 4pin usb interface, or am i wrong?

Cant wait to get a thumbprint scanner in there!

Nick

EDIT: Ok pulled all that stuff off. I can see the 4 pins. Waiting to hear that somone found a thumbprint scanner that will work .

ALSO....under the aluminum sheet, which is under the keyboard. There are two wires with gold connectors. Look like crimp on. They are just floating around (taped down) with plastic (heatshrink?) insulators on the end.

What are these?
Soleit,
You can actually take off that ribbon cable, but I've never wanted to chance breaking it, so I don't know how. I just fold the keyboard face forwards and rest it on the palmrest. Then same with the metal place underneath the keyboard.

Not quite sure what link you're referring about with the 'discreet' scanner. I have no clue how peripherals are wired into a standard USB socket. But what I'm thinking is to get one of those Targus ones and dismantle it. That way I have the software to use too.

If those wires are floating around the top left hand hand corner, those are the connectors for the wireless cards - one for wireless internet and one for bluetooth. They're actually antennas that run around the outside of the screen for good reception.

Bob, I'll host your pic. Just send it alone to me at carrier634@gmail.com, and I'll put it on some space for you.

Well, there is usually no need to host those pics, since all that and much more is shown inside the 8890 (Clevo D800P) Service Manual. - See pages 2-17, A-8, A-9 etc. of the service manual.

Maybe you all should first take a look into the SM before trying to disassemble your notebooks in some unusual critical way. The SM can be found here:

Hal,
Thanks man, but I already got them hosted. I started a new thread (found here ) in the General section because it gets more traffic, but nothing helpful yet.

And thanks for the link krobotkin, that's useful to have. But I can't find anything on those 4 pins that noder says is a USB conection and/or how to attach a USB device.

Are the wireless cars still available? I didnt order one when i bought my computer. But would be nice now, anyone ever do that upgrade?

Also, that Targus, is the same EntrePad from an earlier post. 49bucks aint too bad to disassemble and install that sucker...maybe a christmas project?

Yeah, the wireless cards are still available - See Sager's site and put find the 8890 (D800P) - it's $75.

Yeah, the targus does use the authentec scanner, but I'm not sure if it's exactly the right one that'd fit the Clevo chassis space.

Pyro,

I did some comparisons of the drawings, and it looks to be damn near the right size...

I cross posted this, so if you read it, you read it again

The manual is available at http://www.vreal.org/sagerforums/D800P_SM.zip

Thanks, but can you find a place where it explains the extra usb connection up by the power switch? eg. Shows you which wire you have to solder to which pin?
