I'm looking at the AMS VENUS DS3 Aluminum Black 3.5" USB2.0/Firewire External Enclosure, Model "DS-2316CBK" -RETAIL for a 250GB Hitachi drive. I want both USB and firewire. It has the Oxford firewire chipset and it's $58.29 shipped at zipzoomfly.com

Does anyone have something good to say about this enclosure or recommend another one? I don't want big bubble lights in it FYI :rolleyesold:

newegg

P.S. i need a 4 to 6 pin fw cable too, unless it comes with one...

I got a 5.25" enclosure (yes, with bubble LEDs ). It was the cheaper one I could find with these requirements:

- Made of Aluminum
- Support for Media Drives (CD/DVD drives)
- Oxford 911 chipset (for firewire)

Even if I don't like that much the idea of having "bubble LEDs", I prefer to think of it as a "free item I've got w/ the enclosure"...

Anyway, the enclosure seems ok. Aluminum and Oxford chipset. About the cable, I'm almost sure it will NOT come with a 6pin to 4pin firewire cable. Mine didn't come either, that's why I bought one, too.

You can buy the above. I bought a 3 feet cable, and it's very small. I didn't realize it would be SO small. Buy the 15 feet one...

it came with a 4 to 6 cable! it actually has both a 6 pin and a 4 pin connector ON the drive so if your comp has a 6 pin you plug the 4 pin side into the drive.
i bought a cable for $3 (6 ft) from acortech, meh, oh well, it was only $3
