Sweet, I can't wait. I did find it funny however, a huge AMD ad in the middle of the article
But a 7ghz machine? I'm there

but now that i am reading it................................................

those articles were written in sept of 03........

EDIT said P5 would take 4-6 months to get to the market from Jan 04.... maybe we will see it late this year...

Did you not notice the dates on these articles? 23 June 2003.

This is very old news, and the design has been completely abandoned by Intel in favor of a different design. They are going the way of the mobile processor, the only thing really relevant in this thread to the next gen intel chips is that they will have 64-bit.

EDIT: Oh ok, I see your edit now. Still, like I said, none of the design characteristics discussed in this thread are relevant. The next gen Intel chips will be nothing like what was described there.

Technically Intel's P4 Prescotts could've been called Pentium 5 because they have a totally new architecture than the other P4s do.

Prescotts are still NetBurst based, so the P4 moniker is appriopriate. But I agree with the other points. At this rate the P5 will be very similar to dual Dothan core processors.

Oops, it might have been the Dothan I was thinking about, its been a while since I read the article that I was thinking about when I posted. I do remember that it said Intel was still unsure about whether or not to make that the Pentium 5 at first or to make a P4 version for a while and then switch the name to P5 after the kinks are worked out of the architecture.
