delayed boot up with wireless

My internal wireless on 8887 is working great with netgear wireless router on main PC. Have excellent link, can print to the PC printer, etc. But why does it take about 4 times longer for the notebook to start up? Very delayed in opening from the time the Windows xp screen starts up. Anyone know about this?

Have you removed the internal wireless to verify it is actually that whatg is making windows slow?

only when wireless is enabled

Sorry I didn't give all the details. The notebook boots up in a flash when the wireless network is disabled. It is when I have the network enabled that it is so sluggish. I'm not really complaining because everything seems to work fine and responds quickly otherwise. Just wondered why it takes so much longer to load everything when the wireless is enabled?

I'm going to guess that you have DHCP enabled on the wireless network connection. If that's the case, it is likely taking a little while to try to get the IP information from the DHCP server, longer if it can't find one.

i find that whenever i boot up my 8887 in the absense of gravity, and in a vacuum, tha bootup times appear to be cut in half.

do you have any network mapped drives ? this will kill the loadtimes when network is present but can't connect

Same here

I had the exact same problem with mine and posted a while back. It is not fun really, and the theory about the DHCP server is wrong imho because it would do that for the lan as well when it is not connected.

It appears like the lappy is lost in space, you can't accesss the drives until it resolves itself which took about 3 minutes on mine ( a mighty long time to get an IP address don't you think ). When the wireless card is disabled or when there is a wireless network it boots up very very fast.

Unfortunately when I enabled it it would not work and needed a reboot, so I made 2 configs, with / without wireless.

How can you fit your laptop in your head, though?

The DHCP server was a guess -- that happened to mine when it was set to DHCP, couldn't find the DHCP server, and had wireless enabled (and could access the WAP). Once I disabled the wireless, it booted fast. Once I got it back to accessing the DHCP server, it booted fast. All cases were with LAN as well, but things work a bit ... differently with wireless.

Anyway, hope things work out.
