3dmark05 - 5323

My 2p's worth, but the low scores in 3DMark05 are probably down to the alienware bios. I believe 1.19 and 1.20 downgrade the core and memory speed on the ati9700 cards so they perform at 9600 rates. Apparently done coz alienware couldn't fix the problems everyone had with bsod and agp x8 settings. A complete cop out if you ask me. If you have bios 1.20 or 1.19 and a ati9700 go check your core and memory speed I bet it's around 351 and 202.

Glad I reread this post, I was able to set at 445.50 and 249.75 on my 9700, and it's completely stable. Nice of AW to seceretly downclock the board for us.

Ok results in. On bios 1.20 I got 1052 3dmark05 with a bios default core and memory. Switched back to 1.16 and now my core is up at 445 and memory 250. Ran 3dmark05 and what a surprise, now I get a 3dmark05 of 1342.

Thanks Alienware

Trouble is now, I'll probably start getting the BSOD again whenever I play a game for more than 10 minutes. I'll keep you updated

Timepilot, Just one more thing, if you find you start getting BSOD or games just lock up, you'll need to take down the AGP speed to *4 from *8. I've had a lockup already in Doom3 running with bios 1.16.36 @ 8* agp, but from experience 4* agp will run stable all day long. Don't worry about performance loss switching from 8 to 4 (you won't notice it). In a quick test I've run 3dmark05 on 8 * agp and got scores from 1322 to 1342 (I can't be bothered to kill all unwanted tasks running to pep up the score) and at 4 * agp my scores have been 1312 to 1324. Furthmore my 3dmark03 scores don't differ from 4 to 8 agp.

If you need help on switching the agp settings, just shout.

Does this help out any NVidia owners or just us ATI people ?

Hmmm, just a thought, but I never tried running with 1.20 bios and upping the core and memory speed in radlinker to the proper speed and then seeing if it locks up. Might be worth a try, but then again, all you are doing is fudging what the new bios is reducing.

Thats what I did, I used RadLinker and I did not roll back the BIOS.

My area 51 7700 laptop scored these. i plan on tweaking soon but for a laptop i think these scores are good

3d03 8292
3d05 3368

Need to make a slight correction on my behalf. It appears that only the 1.20 bios reduces the core and memory speed of the graphics card. Bios 1.19 appears to leave the default settings in place.

I got 5511 in '05 with my homebuilt rig and also 55415 in aquamark

LOL..I got 387 on my 3D Mark05 scores.....but in all fairness, that was with the normal background processes running. I was just curious how it would do...does that sound low even with the background process running? The background processes consists of the normal things that run when you boot up...no special programs that I have added were running or anything. I will try later today with closing out the background properties and seeing how it ran.

I checked the model number of the video card thru the debugging program and it said M11, which is what AW said it should be, so I am confident it is a 9700.
