New 8790 Display Driver (30 Sep 04)

Thread Starter
Sagers site show an update to the 8790 display driver. Its dated 30 Sep 04 but it still shows the vers as 8.04 BUT it now says: Requires System BIOS Verison 1.00.10. Maybe this will fix all our video playback problems!!

ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 Driver for Windows 2000, XP (Version 8.04). Requires System BIOS Verison 1.00.10

Where can we download the new BIOS??????

Yes, this is supposed to fix all the video playback issues, you can obtain the new BIOS revision by emailing:
techsupport@sagernotebook.com
and requesting it.

is this video playback issue 8790-specific? or is it related to the whole catalyst/sager problem on sagers in general? though, if it's a video driver, i guess you wouldnt be using the cats or omega 4.6+......

why aren't there any new drivers for video for the 8890. that is bull****. luke why aren't you doing anything for us owners that have been unfortunate to buy a system that becomes discontinued after three months, and then goes into hibernation for ever and ever. I emailed sager about it, but they only tell me that Clevo is the one that develops new drivers for our computers. I HAVE VIDEO PLAYBACK ISSUES ON MY COMPUTER, cause first of all, i use omega/cat drivers, and the last update of Sager drivers were from March, and second, that it is version 4.2 or something as far back as that. IS IT EVEN DX9.0c worthy???? please, i request that you do something about this, cause i payed a lot of money for this system, and i expect that it remains updated, and if i can't get a straight answer from sager themselves, i will try bringing it to the attention of my reseller, PC Torque. Thanks for hearing me out. I believe there are many more that expect driver upgrades, and BIOS flashes more often. Do us a favor, please. Thanks.

I also received it this afternoon. Asked for it late last night using the email link Luke provided.

I asked for the bios today & Sager sent it this afternoon- Now the $64 question, will this new bios fix the video playback issue with only the new 8790 display drivers or will it work with 4.9 ,omega's,etc.? If you have installed the new bios please list what drivers you are using & how things are working

I read this on Omega's site

"Well, at last, the fix for the dreaded overlay video bug has been found. The cause IS NOT
the ATI drivers or any of my settings, the cause is a hardware bug, more specifically a
BIOS bug. In the testing, two people already updated their Sager notebooks with a new BIOS
provided by Sager and the video problem is GONE! So I encourage you to go to your
manufacturer's web page and see if a new bios update has been issued for your laptop, and
if not, e-mail the manufacturer so they can rush out a fix for this."
I quess that say's it all.

One major difference that I observed is that the left wrist pad is now a tad cooler. After monitoring the system, I see that the fans still "kick in" at 50C; however, they do not turn off completely when the temp falls below 40C like it used to. I have let it run and it gets down to 37C and the fans are still running. Not too noisy and it appears to make "general office" type work possible with a cooler machine.

Thanks

On a second note, why does sager have to email it out and not post bios updates on its website? seems silly they have drivers for everything else but the bios.

Can you send me the bios update too?

Well whatever the problem that I had is now gone. Seems to have corrected itself, in some way. All streaminng wmv's had inverted color after I loaded the new drivers/bios. Could've been a problem with Firefox I guess.

Oooh, I'd like the BIOS too, can someone send it? jeffr@iname.com
