New 8790 Display Driver (30 Sep 04) - Page 3

I read DLE3s post and assumed that G had a bios for both lappys. I'm definately not faulting or giving grief to G-OMAHA. I really appreciate his response. I was more making a point that there is a chance for some damage if we (all of us) don't pay close attention to what we are doing with the regards to bios flashing.

Sager NP8790 Bios Version 01.00.10 Attached

Unzip this file. You should then have the 879BV10.ISO file. If you
unzipped and the result is two *.BIN files, the unzip yielded
incorrect results. Retry by right clicking the 879BV10.ZIP file and
accomplish an "Extract In Place".

After the file has been unzipped and you have the ISO image file.
Burn this image to a CD-R or CD-RW as an image. Change the boot
device so that the CD-ROM is the primary device and reboot from this
CD-ROM. Follow the instructions and everyting is automatic.

After the BIOS update has been applied, enter setup (F2) and insure
that all the settings are to you liking - some have changed. The
"Boot" device change to "External" when I applied the change to my
machine.

Have fun.
OK, I sent it to you in error. Wonder why you missed the subject line?

Give me a break - I tried to filter; but "S***" Happens (My ***).

Gary

EDIT: Also, there is a real BIG warning that this BIOS is for the 8790 ONLY. If you installed it, in spite of the warning, well, what can I say...

No I didn't install it. And thanks again (really) for replying. All I was saying is that it is not hard to make a very bad mistake with these flashes. And we all need to be careful.

driver version displayed?

I have installed newest display driver on top of new BIOS Verison 1.00.10 but in system information tool it still shows as (under Components->Display):

Driverc:\windows\system32\drivers\ati2mtag.sys (6.14.10.6467, 750.50 KB (768,512 bytes), 12/11/2003 8:50 PM)

So it wasn't updated???

Steps i did:
1)New BIOS (ok)
2)Run ATI files removal tool (ok)
3) Restart. Windows with default driver loaded, no wide screen, etc
4)RUn setup.exe form new driver package(ok)
5)Restart

And it still shows as older version!!!

Can you please check what does system info tool display on ur comp. Any ideas what I did wrong?

Thanks!!!

Don't understand why you would post this in the 8790 area. Believe, that there is already a link in the 5690 area.

I would love if someone could email me the Clevo D500p Bios update (It's a eurocom D500p -- same as the 5680 I believe)

Thanks,

I emailed sager about it, but they only tell me that Clevo is the one that develops new drivers for our computers. I HAVE VIDEO PLAYBACK ISSUES ON MY COMPUTER, cause first of all, i use omega/cat drivers, and the last update of Sager drivers were from March, and second, that it is version 4.2 or something as far back as that. IS IT EVEN DX9.0c worthy???? please, i request that you do something about this, cause i payed a lot of money for this system, and i expect that it remains updated, and if i can't get a straight answer from sager themselves, i will try bringing it to the attention of my reseller, PC Torque. Thanks for hearing me out. I believe there are many more that expect driver upgrades, and BIOS flashes more often. Do us a favor, please. Thanks.

8890:
Is there any news on this? Anyone have comments? there are many of us that have the 8890, no apparent bios update, and we have the friggen VIDEO ISSUE. I have bios 1009T for my 8890, and it does NOT fix the video issue. Is there a later bios? This is all that my reseller Hypersonic-pc had to offer, but I suspect that Sager or Clevo have a later version and a fix (and if not, they sure as heck better).

Anyone?

Bios query?

Ok, so I have the latest Bios. Before I instal it, I would like to extract the current (i.e. as delivered) bios from my 8790. Ive searched around on the net, and thought a tool called winphlash might do this, but cant find a copy of it anywhere.

Does anyone know how I can do this?

Cheers,

Lotus7

My zip file extracts to two BIN files, even when I do "Extract Here" (using WinRAR). Any ideas? Can anyone send me the unzipped files? mgalica@gmail.com Thanks.
