What's not to like? They have less repetitive and tedious calls which equals less phone work except for the good kind, where they make two or three grand! So like I said, "what's not to like!"

sorry about not having anything ready yet, I've had a busy week with homework and getting my 4750 shipped, but Ogre promises he'll get busy now.

Should I go with a Warrantech or Phillips warranty, or no warranty at all? Why does one cost more than the other? What are the advantages of each?

Looks like Configulator (kudos Configulator!) saved you some work.

Thanks Phil, but I think credit should be given to zakaluka2 as he dug up all the links for me. I think the Staples solution, while good for me, could act as a proof of concept for others. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for everyone, but there may be other electronics stores that have reputable warranty services in your area. It's a third option that many may have not thought about. Seeing as though all the extended warranties are handle by 3rd parties I'd recommend shopping around locally for someone in your area. Always a good for your local commerce.

Do Sagers have compareable screens to say Sony UltraBrite, Dell UltraSharp, and etc?

Yes the sager screens are very bright, come in a variety of resolutions which depends on the model, and I have been told that my monitor looks like a window. The colors are very nicely saturated and 25 ms display which DOES NOT GHOST when gaming in first person shooters.

I'm really torn between the 4750 and the 8790. I'm a gamer an I'm very intrigued by the 4750's AMD 64 and the price of it. But the heat issues I've read so much about have got me spooked. I haven't read as many heat problems from people with 8790's. What I really would like to know is would I be alright playing at a lan party for a few hours straight on either of these machines(in a cool room of course)? I also might be doing a little bit of video editing on my future machine.

BTW, I'd be getting the athlon64 3400 processor, 1024mb ram, and 60gb 7200rpm hdd in the 4750; and the pentium 3.4 (non-EE), same ram and hdd in the 8790.

Alright, the heat problems seemed to be resolved with the most current fan firmware. It lowers the required temperature for the fans to come on. It also lowers hard drive heat about 5*C. So I wouldn't worry about the heat now. Just make sure its propped in the back, either with a nexus heat pipe or better a aluminum cooler. And if your really spooked, you can add as5 too lower the highest temperatures during gaming like 7-8*C or 15*F. I think the 4750 has more power to it, and the 8790 will be outdated rather soon with the upcoming 9860 which will probably cost what the 8790 originally costs. The 4750 also has the potential to use the mobile 62 watt chip, but nobody has opted for this yet. Another reason why I suggest the 4750 over the 8790 for you, is that you said that your a gamer. The athlon 64 is a better gaming chip than the p4 and you will be able to run farcry 64 on your laptop when that is available. The 9860 would be the best gaming laptop, but that won't be released for awhile. If you need a 64 bit laptop now, the 4750 rocks. I have adobe premier on here, I will let you know how that works. I just need to create a project using it.

I wasn't going to buy the 4750 because of the heat issues I was reading about but after getting this thing I found out that the heat is not bad at all. I ran 3dmark04 20loops I saw the cpu hit 79C on cpu test and no crashes gamed unreal 2k4 for 4 hours straight no lockups or anything, as far as in the class room for fan noise if you keep it on portable/ laptop settings and use it for word etc... the fans stay on low. temp idle on these setting is 35C cpu and 38 hd. but on always on your temps idle are at 41C and 40C hd , and while gaming your looking at temps 60C and 43-45C hd.
All and all this thing rocks but I had to RMA my unit because of the integrated camera stop working on me after 3 days, but at least no dead pixels and I should get mine back next tuesday with the upgraded 8X dual layer burner and I miss it already.

If your that worried about heat dont be its not bad at all. Try it out for the 30days and if you dont like it send it back.

What happens if a new and possibly better laptop comes out when I order mine?

This can and probabaly will happen when you order a laptop. This happened when I ordered my laptop. I was tempted to go with the 9100 with that 9800 card. But I didn't. And I got a lovely 17" screen which is a must for premier. This happens whenever a laptop is release, a better one may be released a month afterwards. This is due to the current boom in laptop sales, so the technology is accelerating at a very fast rate. If you are in this situation and you have ordered a laptop, make sure you don't do something hasty like canceling the order without completely being sure what you want to do. The canceled laptop could have been the perfect laptop for you. Sometimes new technology has bugs in it, so just make sure your informed of all advantages, disadvantages and possible bugs. Always be prepared and when you are waiting for you laptop stand resolved. Its tough, but its worth it!

Amen brotha, as I rule I skip 1st gen technologies. OS's included, I didn't move to XP until SP 1, I won't buy into PCI-E until it either prooves stable or gets a revision. Very few people NEED the 1st generation of new technologies, but everyone WANTS it. Most of the people who get it cry about it when its not perfect. 1 guiding rule. R&D labs cannot replicate real world trials. They try and sometime come close. Not until the technology meets the people and the people break it will it become stable. Period. Full stop.

I still want to know about the different warranties without having to read a bunch of other threads. Anybody willing to answer the question in this thread?

Great thread people. This is really helping me alot

I am torn between the 3790, and the 5690. I too am getting this laptop as a replacement for my desktop. So the weight is not much of an issue

My needs are farly simple. Some word processing, email, watching DVD's & surfing. I am not much of a gamer.

The 5690 appeals to me, but may be overkill for my needs. I would assume a 3790 with a 1.7M Dothan and 512 gigs of ram, would be more than good enough for my needs.

I am also a little confused about LCD selection.

I will keep researching! Thanks again.

I would recommend the 3790 in that case, because you want to watch DVD's. It is a 16:10 aspect ratio which is closer to the 16:9 widescreen standard which is used in many Dvd's today. It is also has plenty of power for what you need it to do. It can game pretty well as well. The 5690 would be if you really wanted to game a lot.

Thanks for the reply. I think I am staring to lean that way to. The 5690 is probably a liitle to much for my needs.

For the uses I have described, would you have a screen preference?
