I see these faster processors and just laugh. Unless you are adding something like hyperthreading there really is no realized speed difference between the processors. The only realized speed difference comes with a bus speed increase. The difference between the 2.4 and 2.8Ghz processors is that the 2.8Ghz processor can wait faster than the 2.4Ghz processor. What are they waiting on? The bus ofcourse. Buy the cheapest processor with the fastest bus and you'll get performance almost identical to a faster processor with the same bus speed. Most games really don't tax the processor anyway. You get more bang for the buck by buying a better video card, more RAM, or a faster harddrive.

True, FSB causes a performance jump, but CPU speed is just as important. The FSB is NOT the slowdown in todays systems, it is the HDD. True again that 2.4Ghz to 3.06Ghz is not much of a jump, but the difference is there, and if you're doing CPU intensive work, then it makes a difference.

I dunno about you, but I need the CPU power because I do CPU intensive work, so 2.4 is fine for you but not for me, EOS

you must not understand cpus at all

in games it matters a lot

Quake 3 cpu difference (look at 3.06 (not 3.06C) compared to 3.2

Question for newbie on hyperthreading

I have a question about hyperthreading. As I am a newbie please bear with me.

From what I understand the 3.06 with hyperthreading enabled allows the computer to believe there are two processors (I guess this hyperthreaded processor = multi-taking) since this is STILL just one processor, wouldn't it be limited by the FSB same as a standard processor ?
