For all having gaming lockups/resolution reboot probs read this...

Ok there are MANY posts circulating the forums right now about these topics and i'd just like to tell you what worked for me to fix this problem, and my process. OK well first, you should know i recently (2 weeks ago) got my new 5670 with HT enabled, dx9 came already on it, and everything else doesnt matter as far as specs go. Now i knew that there were problems between dx9 and HT, apparently they didnt work well together, but i thought, "eh my computer'll work" so i didn't worry about it. However after installing all my games onto it when i got it, i couldnt play my favorite game, medal of honor, online anymore because it didnt work.... it would lockup the whole system about 5 seconds into a game. Well i checked my vid drivers and they were up to date from the sager website. So i ignored it for a few days, hey maybe giving it the cold shoulder would fix it...... but no So then i decided that this problem was serious enough to start installing new drivers and looking into unistalling dx9 and reverting to 8.1, though its not easy to do. Anyway, well basically i installed the catalyst 3.4's off a site, i forgot which one, and they kinda worked better, though they seemed somewhat unstable, and the stupid resolution resetting was annoying.... so i then rememberd a site called www.s-seven.net/ati that i had seen on this forum a few weeks ago, so i went there and saw that they had just released their new version ( and last for a while, apparently the guy had a baby, so he's put the project on hold) but never the less, the new 3.5's were released on the 24th and i installed them. The first thing i noticed was that the stupid resolution thing was fixed. So then i was playin warcraft3 for a bit, but that doesnt really test the graphics much.... so i hadn't noticed much of a difference as i hadnt really expected there to be one.... but when i loaded up C&C generals.... WHOA.... let me tell u, b4 this, i kept the resolution at 1024x768 and the settings close to, but not the highest to keep it running smooth. Well all of the sudden it seemed that i was getting a MUCH higher frame rate than before, i had nothing to verify this, but it was running VERY smoothly, so i turned all and i mean ALL the settings to max on the same resolution, and to my big surprise, its still smooth as butter, so i decide to throw it a curveball andincrease the resolution to 1600x1200 and i swear my jaw dropped, it still ran it amazingly well, not choppy or slow at all. So yes, in conclusion, if you are having probs, go to www.s-seven.net/ati and if you're still having probs, i'd be surprised. Also let me know how your games are running afterwards, mine are running unbelievably better. I hope this post helps by giving a walkthrough of problem to solution!

EDITED: Oh and i almost forgot, i also ran windows update and downloaded all of the critical updates, but when i was looking through the optional updates, most were just your standard like japanese language plugins and i almost stopped reading them, but then the word 'gaming' caught my eye, there was an update that said it had to do with problems of games locking up... now i installed this before any other drivers and it didnt fix the problem by itself, but hey who knows, maybe it in combination with the 3.5's is the ticket... anyway i just thought i'd post that incase it was a factor in getting my games to work! I hope this works for you all!

You still have HT turned on right ?

I might try to reenable it now that I got the 3.5 drivers...

I have HT and the DX9 drivers, and with the s-seven.net 3.5 drivers, everything is now working great.

If you're not having issues, or are not required to upgrade for some reason, I'd hang off. My box came pre-loaded with DX9, and I'm trying out SWG (which requires DX9), so I didn't have a heck of a lot of choice. But I've heard others have had issues, so if there's no reason to do it, I wouldn't.

Edit: spelling.

I dled dx 9 but I regret it now. I feel it caused more problems than it fixed...

However, I highly recommend doing whatever you want with 3.5. It fixed all of my problems (the big one for me was maya crashing.)

Strange ...

Probably just wishful thinking but I saw a difference between these drivers and the original Cat 3.5... They seem much smoother in Spearhead

Same exact problem/fix I had/used. Everything is great now! I just want a 9600 pro to replace the 9000.

nope did absolutely nothing. My computer still crashes after playing a game for more than an hour or two. I think its a heat issue though.

The s-seven site seems to be down. Could anyone post the driver they downloaded from here? Upload it somewhere for the rest of us or something?
theres a thread about them being down. Someone from these forums is hosting them for right now.

Here's a mirror of the s-seven.net drivers: http://www.powdahound.com/files/drivers/ATI_M9_6360.zip (these are the catalyst 3.5s)
