http://download.neowin.net/nw_uxtheme.zip

If you patch your uxtheme.dll file with that downloadable app, you can then use nonstandard (and non-ass-ugly) themes.

You can download themes from sites like deviantart and extract them to C:\WINDOWS\RESOURCES\THEMES

Yea the 3 main choices that people use are:
UXTheme

StyleXP

StyleXP basically does the same thing as UXTheme but runs an unnecessary application (and service if I remember correctly) in the background. The UXTheme patcher is the most efficient one I've found.

WindowBlinds will NOT work on a computer with an Athlon 64 and SP2. It really pisses me off too.

I added the other 2 sites for variety and tools. If he also wants to make his own themes both Tgtsoft and Stardock both have applications that help make making your own themes easier. Plus Stardock has a lot more in their full suite if your looking for a full suite for logins, icons, object bars etc etc

Sorry if i'm asking a stupid question, but which of these will work w/o running an app in the backround like windowblinds?

UXTheme is the one that does not run as a program .. Its a DLL file that you replace and use instead of the original ..

once uxtheme is installed, where do you get the actual themes from? it doesn't seem that uxtheme has a website or anything.
