Top Quality 200 pin SO-DIMM 1GB other than Crucial??

Thread Starter
I will probably be wanting a 1GB upgrade for an IBM X40 that comes with just 256MB and has just one expansion slot.

The crucial.com upgrade is "kinda pricey" for the 1GB module.

Is there any other module manufacturer that would be considered truly "top quality" that makes a reasonable 1GB module???

Corsair does NOT make a 1GB from what I have seen.

Newegg has Kingmax (TinyBGA) modules, and Transcend.
They also have Kingston Value-RAM, but it is almost as much as Crucial.

Are either of these upgrades in Crucial's league in terms of quality and reliability?? Or should I just shell out the outrageous price (almost $400) for the Crucial module???

Please elaborate or recommend. I am open to modules other than those from newegg, provided that it is from a great vendor.

Thanks!!

Expensive, but you wont ever have to buy another stick of ram again.

Customer support @ Mushkin is outstanding, i had a 3 year old dimm die on me, and they had a brand new stick out to me within 24 hours. Great company to do business with.

from my experience and general flow i've picked up these are the brands:
Crucial, Kingston (with either Mitsubishi or Hundai parts), Samsung (with either samsung or mitsu parts), and Micron IBM.

Patriot is a decent lower-end module. Long-term manufacturer with good ratings.

But I agree with those that buy from manufacturers with a lifetime warranty, much better than to pay twice.

Thanks to all of you.
The Mushkin looks good, because it is about $100 less than the Crucial, with equal/better support.

Any other comments?
Please post.

Yeah, I looked at that one, but I just see the 7 reviews on newegg.
Kinda hate to "try" memory, would rather just buy it and know that I am done.

Mushkin, Corsair, Kingston, Kingmax (not sure if it isn't the same as Kingston), Appacer.

Are you stating that any of these are as good as any other of them???
I had my doubts about that, especially Apacer.

Well, Mushkin, Corsair, Kingston, and Crucial are probably the top brands in the industry. Kingmax is ususally cheaper than the above but I have read of and had excellent experiences with them - they make great chips that cost less. As of Apacer, I had never used them but have heard only very good thinks of them plus Sagers from PCTorque and other vendors come equipped with Apacer RAM chips - lots of happy owners around.
