why does alienware section hate dell?

Thread Starter
why do the people in the alienware section bash DELL systems so much. As you know I got my I9100 last friday and I must say I love it. I notice they have been calling dell laptops "uber ghey". I dont see how my 9100 is uber gay when it will whoop any laptop currently available in performace. Is more performace gay or are these people jealous because they paid a 1000 dollars more and didnt even get as good of hardware?

1 Word:
JEALOUSY!!!

Or

Dude I didn't get a DELL....
Dude I now has a 15% restocking fee....
Dude I wanted to spend more money for glowing alien eyes instead of a more powerful system (AKA DELL).

I agree, it's jealousy. Spending twice as much as the same spec'd machine has to hurt !!

I guess not having the option of a MR9800 doesn't help either :-)

Partly jealously, partly they need to justify to themselves that they spent so much on their systems, and it's not the best around. It's textbook cognitive dissonance... when you do a behavior (spent so much money thinking you got the best), and see that your behavior was wrong (it's not the best)... it causes anxiety (makes you sad). You then have some options. Accept the anxiety... change your behavior to match your belief (buy the Dell so that you do have the best)... or change your belief to match your behavior (think that Dell is crap, and the Alienware is better). Most of those people are doing the latter, because it's much easier to change their beliefs than change their behavior (cheaper).

friend of mine always had dells, and went for an alienware last time. oh my does he regret it. at least once a week he tells me " I should of bought a dell" .
I don't think Dell is crap. Although, IMHO Alienware does make more appealing systems.
so does sony, but we wont go there now will we?
I'd agree with everyone above me who said "justifying to themselves the additional money they spent".

i love my 9100. best price/performance ratio outta all the other notebook companies. still i wish it didn't look so plain.

It's kinda like how the Apple users try to justify buying a Macintosh that is a couple generations behind in technology to PCs but just looks prettier.

We DELLIANS don't hate AW people... Just trying to better explain their hatred/jealousy towards us.... There is nothing bad at all about an AW system, they probably make fine systems, now that is not saying they are better than dell or even come close to performing as well as dell, but with time and technology on their side who knows what could happen... Someday (2006) they might be able to handle a 256MB graphics card in their gaming notebook systems...

The AW does look better but the Dell is the powerhouse. AW is falling behind in the times

And now they can't even justify buying a Mac. With PearPC, my 9100 (w 1Gb RAM and 256Mb Radeon 9800) runs Mac OS X 10.3 at an acceptable speed - much the same speed that top-end Macs run Windows under Virtual PC.

A couple of generations behind? Sure they're not the fastest, and the laptops are more on par with Centrinos but how is having:

Built In Bluetooth
Built In 802.11g
Fiber Optic Keyboard
Slot Loading DVDR Drive
Auto Dimming Screen (Low Light Condition)
Radeon Mobility 9700 128 (Current Gen)

All in a package around half the weight and thickness of the XPS. Fastest...no...more advanced..I would say yes. I mainly use my Powerbook and my Dual 2.5GHZ G5 for my video and dvd authoring. The XPS and pc desktop are almost exclusively for gaming. Both are great platforms.

There was a great review over on the review section about the Power Book, gave me some serious pause.

Very well explained...

hehe, looks like we have an Apple cultist in here

I have used one of those powerbooks at work and ehh frankly I did not come off that impressed. THe only impressive thing is the way it looks and the OS. If there was the OS available for the Intel and AMD machines and IMHO it wont be that hard to do considering there are a lot of smart people there at Apple and that it is based on BSD, the AMD/Intel sales would so up like crazy and so would OS X sales. Jobs knows that and he probably fears that because the Apple hardware frankly is way behind the times especially in their notebooks. Their 64 bit version is only 'fast' in certain apps that just play to its strengths aka vdo editing and wintel machines are not far behind. I dont know how they are calling their systems more advanced when it gets beat in almost every other bench test out there. Sure they have a slot loading dvdr drive big whoop. Sure they have a fiber optic keyboard...ok I give them that heehe. ANd lets see the auto dimming screen ok I like that but seriously how do you call the Apple hardwarewise to be advanced? I dont see it. A single AMD 64 bit will beat an dual 2.5 ghz proc based desktop they have on most apps except vdo editing let alone the brand new dual core procs that are coming out soon. The hardware is not advanced compared to what we are using. Haha and most of us wont want to drop way more than what we paid for our iXPS to get a workstation or a laptop that is only good in vdo editing. I am sorry but Apple just cant compete. THey are very nice looking and have cool features but their appeal is lost when you cant run most programs on the machine right away especially in the gaming department with mediocre performance at best. The one trump card that Apple has is its incredible OS. That is an incredible piece of software.
