Unidentifiable piece with my new Sentia

Greetings all,

Just got a new Sentia (yay) for my wife and I to use while traveling through Europe, which replaces the two Area 51m laptops that were stolen (boo) while we were in England. It took a while for them to arrive and I'm really disappointed with Alienware sales support, but I digress...

I really wanted to ask a simple question. I found an unknown piece of something in my box of goodies. It looks as if it's a magnet. And it seems as if it could snap onto a cable. Can someone please help me identify what this is and what it's used for?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Forever learning,
Jeff

Could be a ferrite core to reduce EMI.

ElectroMagnetic Interference, it can play havoc with unshielded cables.

Thanks, device manager! That's exactly what it looks like. Now, I'll go research if and where I actually need to attach this thing to my power cable...

Thanks again,
Peace,
Jeff
