Question about ATI9700 in the Acer Aspire 2026WLMi

Hello!
I've recently acquired the magnificent Aspire 2026WLMi.
It's an overall good laptop... but... the gaming efficiency is not as good as I expected! Anyway... after digging in the internet, an issue started to upset me.

When I run programs that analyze my system (SISsystem Sandra, for example), the OEM I get for the chipset is: ATI Technologies Radeon Mobility M10 NP (RV350)

I know the same thing happens with the Aspire 2023WLMi.

Can anyone explain me why they are selling an RM9700 with RM9600 chipset? I was expecting my RM9700 would have a M11 chipset, not the M10.

I would also like to ask whatever user that owns a computer with a RM9700 to check with SISsoft Sandra the AGP device (not going directly to the graphic icon) what the description of the OEM device is.
Thanks and I hope you can help me!!

this is not an issue. M11 is just a reworked M10. radeon 9700 is an upgraded 9600. the chipset is the same, so the data that you got is correct. the same thing is with all 9700 owners.

Thanks for your answer. I know all that... but then, why do you say you have an M11 ATI? You don't... you have an M10 with an increase in clock speed and period... Nothing, nada, niente...
Anyway... I think that its wrong to sell things in a way that could mislead not so informed consumers (as I am)... ATI is a pro on that!!!

The M11 and the M10's only differences are clock speed.

M11 = M10 Pro Turbo Ultra, more or less.

The only difference is clock speed and it IS a fairly big jump from a 9600PT (350 core i think) to 9700Pro (450 core)

actually there is no difference in clock speed. the difference is in some alterations on the GPU itself. the clock speed is in case of some laptops (Dell 8600) with the 9600 higher than the 9700 and still behind in performance. so it is a different chip, but based on the same chipset (r350).

Actually, the chipset for the Radeon 9700 is the M11 (RV365).
I don't know much about this, but on every other review I read, they all agree in this point!

The problem lies with Sandra, not ATI so go yell at them.

Well... I don't know! I was talking with another guy that owns a 2023 and even using different programs, it shows the same thing! An M10 chipset... odd, to say the least! Anyways... life stinks cause notebooks cannot be upgraded with an 9800! That's serious gaming...
