3790 wsxga wuxga side-by-side pics - Page 2

The WUXGA looks like the monitor brightness is turned down. Or maybe running different drivers or color settings. Mine is at least as bright as the your WSXGA+. It could also be that there are different screen manufacturers. I don't know, but mine looks a lot better than the WUXGA pictured.

Like I said above, same drivers. No changes were made to the color settings. Brightness is cranked on both (Fn+F10) and the wuxga is also set to +20 in the advanced display properties.

The equivalent going the other way is to turn down the wsxga 2 notches. The colors are a little different still but the brightness is about the same.

I wouldn't base how your monitor looks compared to the pictures here. There are too many variable, lighting, aperture settings, etc. The same way that my pics don't look like your pics. Both are awesome for sure, but the wuxga does look a little dull comparatively.

I have no idea if they are shipping out different monitors.

There is definitely a difference in the pictures. What kind of camera do you have and what settings do you use to take pics of the screen. I use a Canon Powershot S1 IS.

Canon a80 set to auto.

Draw the point how they look in the same conditions. They do look better and brighter in real life. Don't most things though. My rooms are not yellow. But the pictures give an accurate representation of the differences between them. The wuxga looks better than most of the pictures show, so does the wsxga. The wsxga is brighter and more colorful in real life than the wuxga, just as the pictures show. My camera degrades them both equally.

These pics are not to persuade anyone. I am not tweaking one to look better than the other. You like your screen, I like my screen, my friend likes his screen, we're all happy.

The point I'm trying to make is this:
You say the WSXGA+ is brighter in person. Therefore the degradation still leaves it looking brighter. The WUXGA also looks much brighter in person, but the degradation makes it look dimmer and washed out.

All I'm saying is that people should use these pics for size comparisons only, and not for brightness and clarity.

Those pics look much better than most of the ones I've taken of a screen. It's nearly impossible to take a perfect pic of a screen.

Try setting a custom white balance - don't know if the A series has that, but it definitely can make the shots more true.
basically WSXGA seems better option, I want better clarity+brightness, so wuxga is out..

since those two comp screens are taken by same camera side by side, there's nothing more to argue. I trust person who saw both wsxga and wuxga side by side. and even with pics to prove

yayee,, i'll go for wsxga, thanks for easing my decision john!

Thanks for the pics! Now I have no doubt I made the right decision (for me) ordering with the WSXGA.

The brightness difference that shows in the pictures

shows when looking at them with your naked eyes also.

The wuxga DOES looked dimmer and washed out next to the wsxga. If I had never seen a wsxga I would think the wuxga was the greatest, brightest, most colorful screen in the whole world (albeit a little small). But when they are side by side, looking at them together

the wuxga DOES looked dimmer and washed out next to the wsxga.

I tried everything, custom white, fluorescent, portrait. The best pics were always the auto ones. For that last set of 9 pics I took 107.

The camera does great outdoors but in low light it has problems. And screens don't do good in lots of light.

I'm beginning to believe that.

To all that said "thanks", you're welcome. This was the hardest decision for me, between the 2 resolutions. I'm so glad I got to see them together as I would have always wondered "is there something better out there?" For me, no. For you, I hope this helps you with your choice.

Yeah, I have the PowerShot G3. Had to open up an about:blank in Mozilla then use that as the custom white balance reference, then manual focus the shot, then take the picture with no flash to get a good macro shot of my screen.

It looks pretty decent, but then the monitor edges looks funny - oh well.

Might want to check that the LCDs on each computer are at the same brighntness setting - may be that the WSXGA is on full whereas the other is down a couple of notches.. check just to be sure.

I think I'm going to try and find a photographer that can give me some pointers on taking great pictures. I know my Canon S1 IS has a lot of manual settings, but I'm still learning all of the automatic stuff. There has to be a way to take really good shots of computer monitors and lcd.

John - My Canon has trouble in low light also. It takes GREAT outdoor shots, and great indoor if there is enough light.

Anyway, it all boils down to one thing.

brightness and contrast aside, just based on looking at the different sizes of items on screen, wsxga is the way to go for me. thanks for the additional pics.

You should read the whole thread, this is mentioned several times. The wuxga is set to a higher brightness. Max on the keyboard on both (Fn+F10), and +20 on the wuxga in advanced display properties.

Sorry mjb, pics are done. For awhile at least. There is a slight amount of leakage about the size of a dime on the wuxga that the player is covering up on the bottom middle. Mine has none. This is a per screen thing though as I understand it, happens to the best of them.

Is this better? Same pic, just cropped different. All pics were taken at highest res (4.0mp) and on this one I had the camera as close as I could and still get both.
