i saw the CASV screen

Thread Starter
hiya ppl

i went to compusa y/day and saw the new toshiba with the CASV screen

i must say it is the best lappy screen i have ever seen - and i own the wide-angle uxga sager 5670.

the CASV has the kind of backlit illumination of a CRT monitor - very bright and very crisp, compared to the other LCDs which have a kind of dull illumination - if u know what i mean

the CASV also has a kind of glassy sheen to the screen - i dunno if its a protective layer over the LCD or the LCD surface looks like that

but it gives a wonderful crispness to the image

viewing angles r >= that of the sager - as far as i could compare

the only downside is that the particular toshiba is $2600 - lol

thats enough initial reporting i guess - maybe i'll put more later

CASV on Toshiba S705

I have the toshiba and the screen is fantastic , compared to the 5670 the screen is brighter ( u can adjust brightness in varying steps), wide viewing angle may be little better than sager, 1024 by 768 looks almost as good as that on sager . Unreal 2 plays very well at 1600 by 1200 with all settings to max without hiccup, on sager 5670 i remember unreal 2 hiccups at intense fighting scenes ( I guess due to MR 9000) , the toshiba has only 64 mb graphics ram, hopefully the 5680 with 128 mb ram and MR 9600 will be much better than this toshiba. MOHAA plays well too on this toshiba, the graphics look nicer and crisper may becoz of the new DX-9 graphics card . all games i tested at 1600 by 1200 with max settings, I think mR 9600 pro will rock

Power mgmt on toshiba is very sleek and inutuiative , which is not a big deal for me .

One more thing I agree the Toshiba has that glassy feel to it, I first though there is a film and iam supposed to remove it, the Screen rocks, i have to give that to toshiba, but I personally think the sager 5680 with MR 9600 pro and UXGA will be the one to get inspite of the nifty power mgmts, better batt life and lighter laptop feel of the toshiba

Hey Sowji,

Have you ran any benchmarking on your Toshiba system? And what are the specs...
Hi,
I have not run any benchmarks, sorry!. But the Tosh with the 5600 Fx card is doing a godd job with 64 mb ram in all games except Nascar racing 2003 . It is definetly faster and better visually over MR 9000, and I hoer MR 9600 with 128 MB will be much better than MR 9000 and FX 5600

How much better is the CASV compared to the 5670 Wide Angle UXGA? Besides the viewing angles, is the color/contrast/sharpness, etc extremely better as soon as you notice it or just marginally better where one would need the 2 side by side to tell the differences? Can you provide more details....Thanks.

The CASV screen is marginally better, It is brighter than 5670 screen, both have good viewing angles, the diff is not at all dramatic but minor

I posted some UT2K3 and 3dMark scores .. look for the threads concerning the S705.

Tonight I will post my set of pictures I took a few weeks ago - again sorry for the delay but work has been crazy [ if you have been following the news about a certain large shoe/clothing company you will know why ]

I'll be searching for the benchmark scores now...

Copycat CSAV screen's

Hello All,
Was at my local fry's electronics store the other day and happend to notice that Fujitsu has a new display technology called MSV from what I can tell its increadible close to or identicle to toshiba's CASV. It has all the tell tell signs the increadible clear picture very good brightness/contrast and the glass look to the screen. I was very impressed with the screen, but having not seen a CASV screen myself I was wondering if anyone might be able to shed some light. Here is Fujitsu's link http://webshop.fujitsupc.com/fpc/Eco...n.do?series=AN

thanks all
