expensive but the level of the quality of service, is really worth it, plus Japanese dont really need to pay tips or anything in restraunts etc.

In a recent IEEE magazine, someone did a quick and dirty calculation and came up with somewhere around $90/month for the companies to break even if they were to do the fiber connection to homes. Dunno how the cost break down is in Japan. I know some of the apartments in Seoul, Korea have begun laying out fibers to anticipate this, but I have yet to hear anything on service.

Lastly, QoS on internet connection? I wonder which standard is being used... Did not think it would actually be implemented so quickly...

This past years alot of new buildings are built in Tokyo, so I guess its easier to lay out those fibers.

Still expensive to live there, Service apartment is like $3-4000 a month. The only good thing is that public transportation works well in most cities and you'll probably be healthier as you tends to walk a lot more and you do save on car expense.

Population density is the key. They probably service a few hundred customers per block there vs the maybe 20 homes here in the states.

You must be having fun ;-). Shanghai is such a mess, bad traffic, bad pollution, but the business opportunity is good. Hong Kong is on a slight decline and the future is uncertain but is still an interesting city to live in. My ideal would be Nov-April in Asia and the then the rest in the U.S. (can't stand summer in Asia).

I like winter in Asia. Summers cool too because of all the new things coming out usually at summer in Japan.

PS: Shanghai has good real estate opportunity and the apartments there is nice
