OMEGA DRIVERS junk???

Something to think about:
I just purchased a new 23 inch widescreen monitor that I have attached to my IXPS (see signature), and I have been using the OMEGA drivers during every new release religiously. Well, recently with my new monitor I have been seeing extreme static during game play and lots of flashing uneven streaks across the screen. Considering I just spent 1900 on this new monitor I was starting to get beyond pissed. So I began experimenting with older Omega Driver versions to see if maybe it was something with the drivers for my new MR9800 256MB graphics card I had installed myself. Unfortunately, no version of the Omega Drivers solved my problem... So on a last ditch effort to correct this problem before throwing my new 23 inch monitor through a wall, I tried to load the ORIGINAL drivers sent by DELL for the new graphics card and remove all the Omega Driver versions all together... To my COMPLETE surprise, after loading the drivers shipped with my new graphics card ALL the problems I were seeing disappeared and the game play for FAR CRY, COD United Offensive, TIGER WOODS 2005 became clear and crisp without a glitch... No static, no lines and a MUCH happier gamer...
Just my experience and thought I would pass it along...
Thanks,
J

Has anyone been using their IXPS or I9100 with their lid closed for a long period of time?? I noticed there are 2 intakes under the monitor lid and was curious if always having the lid closed could cause any overheating issues? Ofcourse if this does than it was a major design error on DELL's part but thought I would ask....
Thanks,
J

Well 99.9% of the people on this forum don't use a secondary montior, so we shall continue to reap the goodness from the Omega drivers.

Ok, I guess that was a poor choice for a thread title and I apologize... Omega Drivers did solve a locking problem I was having with my Call Of Duty game back when I was using the 9700...
Just thought it was strange how it is causing problems for me now... So saying that, "IF" anyone uses an external monitor with the IXPS and has any problems with static or flashing streaks try the original DELL drivers for the ATI MR9800.... It helped me...

To be honest I did not check... Probably should have, but was reinstalling drivers so much I did not check... I do have to admit I never saw these problems when I did game on my notebook monitor only.

i think the vents next to the keyboard are there in the case of people using the comp on the lap to aid in taking air in if the bottom intakes are blocked by chance... really doubt if you close the lid it would make any difference unless you're putting the laptop on a surface that somehow blocks the intakes (i.e. bed, pillow, etc...)

sounds like it might have been a problem with refresh rates.

You were right in your first assumption...Omega's drivers seem to cause as many problems if not more than they supposedly fix.

err I have never had any problems with Omega drivers.
i just started using the Omega's and i've had no problems what so ever... gives me better performance than the Dell supplied drivers and they will probably be more up to date. the guy is nice enough to put them up, asking too much for them to be a do it all driver from someone other than ATi or Dell IMO

You're correct that for some Omega's drivers may get the job done. After all, Omega just repackages hacked ATI drivers since he doesn't write any of the code. For those who really only care about 3DMark scores, Omega probably will score higher than any basic unified ATI Mobility driver. But for those who value external monitor support and plain-old driver stability over trying to achieve inflated 3DMark scores, I would recommend sticking with the stock ATI drivers.

Err somms not just 3dmark scores but game frame rates as well...thats the main reason. Not 3dmark. I get no boost in 3dmark with omega...but I do get games running smoother and higher frame rates. And if by stock ATI drivers you mean the Dell drivers, they are probably repackaged as well just as not as nicely done as Omegas since Dell is not writing any of the code. And if the Omega drivers were so bad then ATI would not be lauding his efforts. Different drivers for different people.

Have been using omegas with my 9100 MR 9800/ Dell 20" tft Monitor with no dramas at all.

Yeah those ATI software engineers who write the drivers are a bunch of noobs, they could stand to learn a thing or two from Mr. O and his awesome set of drivers.

You know, the monitor I was having all my problems with is an APPLE... That could be the source of all my problems...

This post was not meant to denigrate Omega by any means I hope it did not come across that way, (poorly titled). Just showing my shock at the huge difference I had when the Omega drivers were removed and replaced with stock.

SGG - See I knew someone else out there connected their laptop to a external monitor, I guess you and I are the .1% of people that do, to quote an earlier saying by daNich...

Thanks,
J

There aren't any!!!!! No drivers came with the beast (monitor)... But once the original dell MR9800 drivers were loaded all my problems went away...
