NP4780-SVideo output to TV

Hello all,
I've been trying to send the output from my laptop to my TV via svideo cable to no avail. I've searched all over these forums also no to avail . I just want to play some games using the larger TV screen over my laptop screen. After plugging in the cable to both my laptop and my TV, I do not get the option (throught the Display properties-settings-advanced-ATI display tab) to switch to my TV...it's greyed out. I've tried: restarting; switching to display 2 in display settings-2nd display; checked out device manager where the svideo port is not listed. I spent $25 on this damn THX svideo cable and now I can't get it to work. Please help!!
PS - I have a NP4780 with the ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo.

what drivers are you using? I never had any problems connecting to my tv with my 4780. Try Omega drivers.

Thanks for replying RAID, I'm using the ATI drivers (6.14.10.6414) that were supplied through the sager website. I'm willing to try the Omega drivers...but where would I find the correct ones?

Hello again,
I've downloaded and installed the latest Omega drivers. Now all that I am able to do is force the detection of my TV, but still am not getting any picture showing up on my TV. I've tried to switch displays to the second display under normal display properties-settings and tried to extend my desktop to that display. Back in the advanced properties, I even once enabled the TV and disabled the LCD!! Thank god for the 15 second confirmation dialog. With the TV, I had the svideo cable plugged in on both ends before trying anything. I am getting frustrated but I'm sticking with this until I get it. What next? Any suggestions?

I have not yet tried to do this with my 4750, but try setting the TV as your primary moniter and the LCD and the secondary. I know this has to be the case if you are watching videos.
Edit:I can not find the primary moniter box in the settings like on other laptops I've seen.
Edit2: I found it but the box is grayed out and I am not able to select it to change primary moniters.

One sec and I will see if anyone on my dorm hall has an S-Video cable so that I can try this myself.

Does anyone else have any other suggestions? I'm stuck with no where else to go with this problem. Recap - installed latest Omega drivers, have svideo cable plugged into both TV and laptop, in display properties, choose 2nd monitor and extend desktop, hit apply, then it goes back to being greyed out. In advanced properties, forced TV detection and activated the TV. I've tried just about all I know with this, and have yet to see any output on my television - stuck at blue screen on TV. Please help.

arg, wish I could help. It sounds like there is some setting or configuration that you've missed or need to change or something, just keep trying random things or email Sager and they should be able to tell you exactly what to do.

I wanted to bump this thread as I'm having the exact same problem with my 4780. Was there any resolution to this?

Adominey,
I never did get this to work. After getting in contact with Sager support, they wanted me to send my laptop to them for further help. Since I don't want to go through all that trouble, I have not resolved my/our problem. It's amazing, I'm a systems administrator for a large, reputable company in NYC, but can't figure out my own laptop!

Petey-
I wonder if this is a fault of the ATI Radeon card. I've seen about 10 posts in my searching that are the same as ours. Typical Sager quality...

I never had a problem with this on my sager 4780 for some reason. I got video files to play perfectly fine on tv's before with svideo output.

How did you accomplish this? Did you use a convertor to composite or does your TV have an svideo in? Did you clone the display output somehow? Did the tv automatically show up when you plugged it in?

Adominey,
I'm utterly ashamed to admit this, but I got it to work. All this time, I thought the only svideo port was on the right side, next to the coax, and it had 2 PS2 ports on the back left. Turns out, there is one PS2 port and one svideo port. Plug in, tv recognised, works like a charm. I guess the one on the side is for svideo-in and the one in the back is svideo-out. Well, I'm happy I finally got it to work, but I feel like a moron.

the one on the right is svideo in for use with the tv tuner. makes more sense now.
