I think this is a rumor ...

has anyone heard about this laptop ? This guy talk about this Toshiba killer like it's coming. Is this a rumor ?

I don't think it's real... If I can get that laptop, Toshiba SuperClear with only $2,199, I will choose it over Sager or anyother laptop anyday. With the 3.06 GHz Pentium 4-M, 100GB HDD, 1GB ram, OLED screen, only 0.6" thick and 2.6lbs...
As I know, the best OLED rightnow can display at only 1024x768 (1280x1024 is still a prototype and too expensive to make.... I think I saw somewhere it cost over $7000).... but this machine have an OLED screen at 1656x1428 native resolution.

"...graphics chipset is the 16MB Trident Video Accelerator CyberBlade XP Ai1" -- I'll pass.

Ummmmmm... I can't say HOAX any more than this! OLED screens have yet to make it out of experimental phase. Yes, they are very promising, but their durability sucks. Their earliest projected date to laptop screens is 2006. Currently, OLEDs are in some small monochrome cell phone screens. Oleds are currently simply too delicate to make into full blown screens.

Man I LOVE this new lap. As soon as the new 9600 Pro and 800 FSB features are implemented in Octouber (supposedly), PCTorque will receive my money wiring for one of them. No single doubt about this.

Cheers.

anyone else notice the price??? it looks the same as the 4060.

The news report says late July, early August. It better not be october!

it seems to me

4760 is just a 4060 with a 17" screen.

The estimates I have heard around here for the M10 in the 4760 have been Octoberish, while the other models (8890, 5980, etc) are expected to get it Augustish.

I was expecting a score junkie to respond to you by now, but since they haven't...

I wouldn't pay too much attention to those scores, unless you just want bragging rights. Otherwise, of the applications you mentioned, 3D Studio Max is the one most likely to be effected by those scores (and it doesn't sound like it will be your primary use). For the other applications you are looking at, processor and bus speed are the most important factors (hyperthreading is going to be your friend!). So, you may or may not want to wait for the faster bus speed, but the M10 isn't going to make a substantial difference for you (again, for the applications you are talking about).

I am primarily going to be running mail/web/office (of course), Dreamweaver, VisualC++, Photoshop, Games, DVDs, and occasionally Maya or 3D Studio Max. From what I can see, the specs on the 4760 are more than sufficient for all this and the screen is going to be great (1920x1200 would be better, perhaps, but since that doesn't exist on a 17" screen...) -- not to mention that it is thinner and lighter than the 5670 or the 8887!

adam could you please take a picture of the 17" widescreen next to a different sager laptop(5670, 8887, either or/both) Thanks alot
post #34 of 62

Kaleva >thx man

i ll wait for the 7200 hd a little bit and i should be ok for a long while then i think...
yes 1440*900 seems a little small..but that screen looks much better than the 17 powerbook and i can breath now. ;-)

Wait so in octoboer, supposedly a M10 will be availbe with the 17 inch screen?

a few answers

Quanta, Compal, and some other company manufacture the 17" screens. I'm 95% sure that a 1920x1200 17" is in the works both companies. I think they are competing for the dell 17".

supervideo.com is mostly about the future or products that are in alpha testing. The guy has a lot of connections and is usually accurate. When it comes to the laptops, he is usually correct but several months off. The 8600 was on his site way way before any of the resellers. I don't know how he got the photos or the details but anyway, it looked like pure rumor but as we know, the 8886 came out.

I like the idea of a 17" screen and the laptop actually would not be too big to travel with, but I won't get the 4760 because:

- only max 1 gig ram
- only one HD.

man, when will they switch the Ctrl and Fn keys, that's gotta take a while to get used to.

Adam, please don't forget about us, we are waiting for 1920x1200! Actually nobody offers a 17" wuxga, the only thing out there is a 15.4" from we know who. Why is that? You mentioned in another reply to my request that you asked Sager for such a screen, but does it even exist? or you are just expressing what customers want and see if the demand pushes an LCD maker to manufacture one?
