Extended warranty (again!)

Hi all,

I've been reading these forums for a number of weeks to help in deciding which new notebook to purchase. I really appreciate having all of your fantastic input into my decision - Thanks!!

I will be purchasing today from PCTorque the 3790-S, with 1G ram, 80g HDD and bluetooth option. I decided on the 80g because I want to run a dual boot system with Linux and Microsnot, and decided the space was more important than speed (I don't do much gaming)

I have a 5yr old Dell P2 500mhz which has served me well, however it's starting to fail in a number of areas, and I've been given a budget of 2.5k from my wife/boss for a new lappy!!

I am still on the fence however regarding whether to purchase the Philips extended warranty or take my chances. I have read all of the posts from July/August, and was wondering if there were any new experiences out there regarding the performance of the Philips contracted service? Has ANYBODY had a good experience?

I've had my dell open too many times to count, and have been able to repair it myself with no problem. Once the 1 yr runs out, buying parts and repairing it myself is a definite option...

someone had a really bad experience with phillips, try to find it in the sager support section

i would generally throw out the extremely good and extremely bad reviews just to get a good sense of the level of service

searching around the web would give you a lot more feedback on the various warranty providers

Please go to PCTorque and read carefully about their warranty. You can hold off on the extended warranty for a while as you can purchase it later on before the last 90 days of the original warranty's expiration. Read PCTorques' warranty. They seem to be the only company out there that does that.

I talked with PCTorque alot today regarding the extended warranty options. They will let one purchase the Philips warranty up to 30 days before the factory warranty expires, and the Warrantech warranty up to 90 (I think) days before the factory warranty expires. I'm going to go ahead and purchase the 3790 after I get back from vacation, and decide on the warranty later. I need to read in more detail, but Luke at PCTorque thought that the Warrentech warranty will allow one to send the lappy into Sager for out of warranty work and will then reimburse you. More fine print reading in my near future!! Thanks again for all of they great discussions, I'm really looking forward to owning a great machine!

Just want to put my .015 in here. I have purchased the Phillips warranty on each of the 3 sagers I have bought. Used it once, they were very professional and had a very quick turnaround time...problem was MoBo or controller I think, and I had it back in 6 days.

Also, when I sell my lappy's, I get good money for them because I advertise them with warranty.

Just sold my 3363 in Feb this year dor 1200.00.
