I am about to build a new system with either an fx-53 or 3800+, any info is appreciated. Thanks.

Go for a 3800+, oc it to 2.6ghz
On an MSI K8N Neo2 Plat.

It was a hassle to get everything going, because AMD Boards are so fussy..

But I manage to get a SOLID STABLE:

2.6Ghz (2.4 stock)
2 Gigs running at DDR 533 RAM 2.5-3-3-5(DDR400 stock)
OCZ Plat. Revision 2 - EL DDR400 2-2-2-5 Memory... This stuff is NICE!!

It takes a lot of tweaking, but it's a good solid set up... and the Nforce3 Chipset is a good way to go....

Ok thanks, It will be a decent upgrade from my k7

MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum. It can be a daunting board for if you don't have much experience. But it's worth it.

Get the 3800+ BTW.

Well hell that's pretty much what I said... lol only I gave a RAM suggestion too!

Meh... Get Crucial Ballistix PC3200 memory. It's the best for the Athlon 64.

There

Newegg is the best place. It was $300 for 1GB. I think I'm gonna add another GB for good measure. It runs stock at 2-2-2-5. Very fast. I may try to do some overclocking later.

To OC, you'll lose your nice timings and have to go 3-3-3-5....
But you should have no problem hitting DDR500 with that

And when you think about it... DDR500 at those timings is still sweet!!!!!!!
Of course it's all a gamble any how...

I do think it's funny though, because between myself, you, and yang88she, we've got pretty close to the same systems... It's cool to see how the few little hardware differences make huge performance differences...
(and my monitor pwns all!)

Draw, do you do heavy Photoshop, Video Editing, 3D Modeling, etc? If not, you don't need the extra gig... (unless you have $$ to burn! and are lookin' for braggin' rights!)

I've got 2 gigs in my system.... In games, there's not much if any performance gain.... But for Photoshop it helps a lot....

Another thing to consider, the MSI board HATES 2 GIGs in Dual Channel....
It took me forever to get it to work.... Read the MSI forums. With 2 gigs in the system (ie: all 4 slots being used) is automatically down clocks your memory... You can of course put it back up to 400DDR, but stability seems to go by the way side...

I got mine working by sacraficing some timings and kickin' the voltages to the max... Maybe the Crucial will perform a little better than the OCZ.

I don't really do anything that stresses my computer. I game quite a bit, and I use Photoshop some. Upgrading my systems is more of a hobby than out of need. I'll probably pass on the extra gig for now.

MSI is crap...oh wait I'm using the same MB haha...but I had mine before draw and cap...ahem ahem...yep I recommended it to them yes thank u , no no no, thank u....
