Home Theater Help

Here is the problem: I have a media center PC and I am using a normal home theater from cerwin vega. It is a nice setup, but I have a feeling it is not working correctly because the audio is being sent from the PC and stereo. Am I losing the 5.1 advantage? It will not setup correctly if I go through the 5.1 in the audio settings. I cannot get the back speakers to play that way. Right now I am splitting one out wire to 6 and manually feeding that to the reciever I have.

I am thinking about changing to a 7.1 logitech setup (gigaworks I think). Would this be easier to setup since they are PC speakers?
Would these work for quality DVD entertainment, comparable to Cerwin Vega?
Are there any better 5.1-7.1 speaker systems for PCs?
Just for a comparision to anyone how might have one of these. How are they in comparison to say a BOSE lifestyle system?

Thanks in advance.

I can get 5.1 audio out of my 4750 only when playing a 5.1 enabled DVD though the spdif port on my lappy. If I am trying to get sound by any other method, I only get 2 channel audio. I wouldnt worry about quality though, spdif is digital so I dont know how much quality loss you would get thought the sound system, But I'm assuming not much. I am no audiophile though, so dont take my word as gold. But play around and I bet you can get 6 channels going somehow!

Note, if you are currently splitting one wire to six, you are still only getting stereo sound. Albeit, it is coming from 6 speakers, but that's not 6 individual channels.

I run a 5.1 system using a desktop PC into a madrigal Proceed PAV/PDSD(The PDSD is a 5.1/AC3 digital decoder). On the PC side it's using the SP/DIF off a Revolution 7.1 from M-Audio. Works great and it's a decent sized home theater.

You get discreet channels that way. The way you've described it, I would assume that you've got stereo but not true surround sound. It doesn't sound like you'd even have Pro-Logic, though you might.

Klipsch pro media ultra 5.1 speakers 500 watts total with a 170 watt sub(2-8in woofers) and is your soundcard capable of handling 5.1?

My sound card is has up to a 7.1 option. It shows the setup for a 5.1 as using all three sound outputs, but I get nothing to the speakers when running out of the top two. I will give it a shot again later, but I like the small size of the Klipsch ultra 5.1.
Currently
2 250w front speakers. Large standup kind
1 center 75w
2 rear 100w
1 200w subwoofer.
1 JVC reciever.

I paid about 1250 for the setup I have now, but it is very large. I am low on room because I have a 65 inch TV. Little but powerful speakers would be great, and if they are easy to setup that would be a plus. I like the BOSE systems, but I am using a media center and my sound comes from a PC. I would like to have good comparable speakers made for a PC.

Thanks to everyone so far. Great input.
