best software firewall?

zone alarm has been getting on me nerves lately so methinks it's time to shop around. is zonal alarm still the king? any recommendations?

Unfortunately, Zone Alarm is still the best software solution as far as I know. Stay far away from Norton Internet Security, as it is very buggy.

Whenever possible, I would recommend a hardware firewall instead. You can get a Linksys router for cheap, or pay a bit more for a Netgear firewall box. Of course, when you are on the road that can be a pain, but arguably preferable to the pain that Zone Alarm can cause.

Hmm... I've used Norton Firewall 2003 for almost a years with my 4 computers without any problems. I believe CNET give it the best firewall software in year 2003.

Perhaps the key is to just run Norton Firewall, and not the rest of the Norton Internet Security suite. I found the whole thing so troublesome that I uninstalled the entire package after reading similar complaints online with no clear solutions.

Your mileage may vary ...
