So, are you from Canada as well? Is that why you bought a Eurocom?
I am from Canada - Calgary, AB. Really, I bought Eurocom because I got a good deal on a slightly used one. Funny, I used to live in Ottawa, about 1 mile from Eurocom's headquarters, but never stopped by.

I've got them online at http://www.cs.westminster.edu/~cdean/mirror/d500p. I'll have them there for about a week or so until I do my fall cleaning.

Just got the BIOS, but I haven't applied it yet.

Can someone confirm that it does not de-swap the keyboard layout. I have the Ctrl key on the far left, and I want it to stay there.

thanks

Confirmed - the key-swap bios is a separate keyboard bios. I also have my keys swapped, and they remained swapped after flashing.

Holy computer

I do not own a sager 5680 per se, but I have a laptop that looks identical, but has a different name "Whitebox CL5".

I was annoyed by the video display "bug" with WinDVD playback, so I checked this forum.

Halleluja!

I do not yet know if any thing is screwed ut, but the playback issue seems to be solved in WinDVD.

I used Winphlash and flashed from windows with "568R10s.wph", and I had no problems what-so-ever in the time right after flashing.

I have to get back to this thread if anything has gone wrong somehow, but right now everything seems OK.

(Will go watch the movie Gods&Generals now)

Edit: A few days later, I have had no issues that I am aware of after flashing the bios.

Edit2: Ok, a while later it is fair to suspect that I have one issue. My boot-up often result in a blue screen of death, with varying errors. Not a critical I guess, but somewhat annoying.

Edit3: Ok, the blue screen of death is gone, and I dont know why.

Hi, I am having a problem with video playback also. I am wondering if someone could send me the newest bios update to my email @ dscottshields@yahoo.com. Also if i could get detailed information on how to apply this newest bios update as I am a newb at this and don't want a dead machine. Thanks in advance!

Hi... is Bios ver 1.00.10S still the latest bios? Also, how come Sagernotebooks.com doesn't have these availabe for d/l?
To the best of my knowledge, yes it is. And since the 5680, indeed the 5600 line is discontinued, it is likely the last unless something really bad is discovered.

As for why...generally speaking, when it comes to BIOS flashing, it is best NOT to flash unless you have a problem. This is a holdover from the days when a BIOS flash was a decidedly dicier prospect. Historically, a bios flash could wipe your system out fairly easily leaving you with a large paper weight.

It is far less likely to occur today (though a mid-flash power outage is still a scary thought), but computer makers would prefer people flash under their guidance/direction.

Thanks alot, I got your email. How do you use the other program to flash the bios and where do you get it? Also could you give me detailed instructions on how to do this. Thanks again in advance, been a big help!

I have a 5680 from about 2 years ago, I have the bios that has the video card running at the underclocked speed, I have no other issues with it, I am planning on upgradeing from the 2.8 to a 3.2 and doubling the ram frmo 512 to 1 gig. SHould I bother flashing it or should I just use like ATItool to overclock the video to the correct speeds?

The new bios mainly fixes issues with dvd playback on later ATI drivers. IF you are running older drivers, or don't watch video on your machine, then you won't need the bios uipgrade.

If you are noticing very choppy video playback after upgrading your drivers, then you can either flash, or downgrade your drivers. Processor speed and ram don't figure into the equation.

Gerryf,
Could you send me the files to make a windows 98 of windows 95 boot disk? Thanks
post #114 of 160
No

well, I could, but it's far easier to make your own. Double click MY COMPUTER, insert a floppy, right click on the floppy drive, choose format, then check CREATE MS DOS startup disk.

Then copy the bios files to that disk. Reboot with the floppy in the drive. Assuming you haven't changed the default, your computer will boot from the floppy first. After all loads, you'll get a message to type an option for the BIOS you want. You want 10s.

FYI - www.bootdisk.com

Download and configure almost any kind of bootable disk you want.

Here's the other side of it: I didn't Swap the keys and it was left alone! so no worries there.

confirmed, then

Can we confirm then that the dvd playback and other framerate-related problems are no longer an issue? Do we have the OFFICIAL WORD from Clevo or Sager/Hypersonic/Whitebox/etc?

I'm still hosting that mirror (see pg 7), and will until on or around Dec 18 (when I clean out my mirrors folder for C-mas break).

would somebody be so kind to send me the 5680 bios also? lock1482@yahoo.com or lock1482@cox.net

Sent the last two requests for the bios.

I don't know that we have an official word from Sager/clevo/etc. All I can say is that I related that I had the video problem, they said at the time there was no fix, but a bios fix was coming, then two weeks later they sent me the 10s bios.
