Works for me so far. I applied the BIOS flash and the newest Omegas (2.5.97).

Hey, I have the 568bv10s.zip file and ive extracted its contents. Do I just need to copy the contents to a bootable floppy disk then restart with the disk in the drive and type 10s when propted? Also how dangerous for my laptop is this? Checked my insurance and im only coverd for accidental damage, which dosent cover Bios flashes.
Yes, copy the contents to a bootable floppy...on boot, you will have the option to select 10s.

How dangerous....well...10 years ago, it was moderately dangerous. Now, it is only slightly dangerous.

That's why you should only flash your bios is you are experiencing a problem.
cool, thanks for your help. Should I install the new omegas b4 or after the flash or does it not matter?
Sorry to keep askin stuff but Is it any safer/better if i do the flash with WinPhlash utility?
omega...doesn't matter. Video drivers and bios are unrelated.

safer for winphash---I would say no. Is it less safe? I think I would say it is probably a little less safe--rationale: I always subscribe to the idea that more complex means less stable. Certainly, WindowsXP is more complex than Dr.Dos. At the very least you are one step removed from the hardware you are trying to upgrade.

Better? Certainly easier.

I have never encountered a problem either way, but I prefer the DOS method. That said, I have run into many machines without working floppy drives....so winphash it is.

Thnaks for your help, I have the bios flashed ot 10s but now I have the new omegas installed its not being a bit odd. Video plays in small screen but in full screen its out of sync with the sound, but when i try to play a dvd im told tht create overlay failed, please lower your screen resoloution or colour depth. Also when I drag a box across the screen, for example the recycle bin screen it refreshes realy slowly. An ideas?
Sounds like a video driver problem...did you uninstall the previous drivers (always, always, always uninstall previous video drivers before upgrading)...

Three step process
Uninstall from add remove control panel
Use drivercleaner (available at http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner/)
Install new drivers
Thanks, I went back to the restore point I made and reinstalled the drivers. Everything works now, thanks again
post #134 of 160
Would someone be so kind to forward a copy of those drivers to cam@cameroncole.com?

Thanks in advance.
what drivers? Video...way too big to fit in your mail box. Google them.

If you want the BIOS flash...please look at my earlier post and download them from my server

Thank god for this site and this post!!! I might have to leave work early today because I'm so excited about the possibility of fixing my 5680 once and for all.

Question - Is there a readme with instructions on how to use this flash utility included in the zip file? Or is it basically the same as previous versions (i.e. boot disk w/o himem problem, type 10s, enter setup on first reboot to reload default settings and reenable hyper threading)?
basically the same....

insert floppy, use drdflash.exe (i couldn't think of anything else to call it) to make the boot floppy, then extract the contents of 568bv10s.zip archive to the floppy and reboot your computer with the floppy set as the first boot device....

The autoexec.bat will direct you to choose a flash---chose 10s.

Thanks A Lot

Hi All:

Its was frustrating to learn the hard way the ATI does not update its drivers for the Mobility Cards (my first and last). Then it was a relief to discover the Omega drivers. Then it was frustrating to have my video bug out.

I am so thankful for this forum and this thread. I found it today, updated my BIOS, and now all appears to be well.

Thanks so much.

Can someone please email the bio update to me at CBeckstrand@gmail.com? I tried the link a few pages back and it's not working. From the posts it sound like it fixing the video is hit and miss but I'm willing to try anything. Thanks a ton.
