Do i need a laptop cooler?? The Vantec LapCool2 in focus..

I will have an amilo m1420 (similar to the mitac 8050 but i think it has less heating problems cuz of a 4200 rpm drive n other things)

any way, do i need a laptop cooler? im thinking about the Vantec LapCool2. its cheap n i heard its really good..

If im using battery, will it decrease battery life alot (using the usb for power i may add) also, is it loud??

I'm seriously thinking about getting one of these what do u think?

I'm also considering the or Notebook Pad NP-101 by "Evercool". any feedback on that one?

The vantec is very nice and would be of use when gaming or crunching numbers for a long time. My Asus gets average bat life of 3,5 hrs with the vantec plugged via usb in the lappy - this is 0.5-1hr less than without it.
The cooler is very nice and thin (for specs check out newegg.com) and fits nicely in the bag I got with the lappy. As for weight, to be honest I can't tell the dif when I have it in the bag from when I carry only the lappy.

I think the Targus Chillmat is a better choice...Why call it a "lapcool" when you can't set it on your lap? The problem is that if you actually use the laptop on your lap, the Vantec won't work because your legs block the airflow. The Tragus, on the other hand, has a back vent for the fans.

It has an aluminum plate. It's not loud at all. I found the fan of my notebook louder than both fans of the Lapcool2 at the highest speed, which kind of surprised me. It's also very light. I can carry it anywhere.

About the dimensions, a picture is worth thousand words... you can compare to the mini mouse and to the palm Tungsten E.

Dimensions taken just now while I was reading this: 29.8 cm of width, 26.1 cm of height and 1.6 cm of "thickness" (depth?), when closed ("legs" or supports retracted). It is exactly 4 cm tall on the back and 2.8 cm on the front. EDITED: the "tall dimensions" were taken with the cooler opened.

this is the one without the usb ports.. if im gettin one.. im getting it with the ports..

Also, does a 1.7 Dothan generate that much heat??

Not compared to other processors, but your other components (graphics, HDD, DVD-depending on what you're doing) will make up for that.

can anyone please post temperature differences?

It depends on whether your lappy has vants at the bottom - this is when the cooler will affect the temps the most. For my Asus M6BNe the temps with the Vantec are 5-6C lower than without it.
