Took the plunge, ordered IBM T42

Thread Starter
I had pretty much decided on the Sager 3790 (it seems like a great notebook) but I managed to get such a good deal on a thinkpad that I just couldn't pass it up. Partially due to a decent educational discount, partially due to getting lucky and having a really nice senior sales supervisor answer the phone when I called. I managed to get it for around the same price as an almost identical configuration on a 3790. The build quality and keyboards on IBMs seem to be in a league of their own. No internal bluetooth, so I'll have to get a usb dongle, but I'll live.

T42
P-M 1.8 745
512MB RAM
80GB 5400rpm HDD
15 UXGA (1600x1200) TFT LCD
128MB ATI FireGL T2
DVD-R/CD-RW Multi-Burner (slim)
Intel 802.11b/g wireless (MPCI)
Modem (CDC)
1Gb Ethernet (LOM)
UltraNav
Secure Chip
6 cell Li-Ion battery
WinXP Pro
3 year warranty

I should get it in about 2 weeks, and I'm almost certain I'm going to go insane with anticipation before then. Here's my offering to the Pixel-God for NO dead pixels (pretty please?).

Too low to say before it's been shipped.

I'll let you know once they ship it though.

Crazy lappy, IBMs are really nice, with that kind of power the price must be outrageous though but the firegl suggest you're going to work on it and make your money back

good luck for the dead pixels

Man IBMs are real nice... I just wish I could afford one.

To your nice lappy!

...in case if you have dead pixels

... you can return the laptop in 30 days for whatever reason (no questions asked) and get your money back or replacement. It's a IBM satisfaction guaranty.

Alright I'll make you feel good right now, the T42 you ordered is absolutely awesome, no laptop at stores like CompUSA, BestBuy, Circuit City etc. hold a candle to it and I doubt the Sagers or Alienwares do either. The UXGA display is gorgeous, I personlly have the WSXGA+ display but I can thell you the Flexview display is so bright, sharp and clear. The T42 is so solid feeling, it feels like you can throw it across the room and nothing will happen to it, it's that good. It's also really quiet, even when the fan does come on there is a soft woosh and then it gets practically silent. Not to mention the great IBM service, no off shore customer service here, all U.S. calls go to Atlanta Ga. so you don't have to wish you understood what was being said. Oh and if you do call IBM to ask a question you most probably won't have to wait more than 2 or 3 minutes, not hours like my friend had to do with Dell.
