Acer travelmate 8005 or 8006? (budget issue)

Thread Starter
I have been looking for the right notebook to buy for a long time now. This forum has been a very valuble in order to find what specifics to look for in a new notebook.
I have narrowed the field down to the Acer travelmate 8000-series. From reading the forum I have noticed that most of you Acer owners exchange the 4200rpm drive for a faster 7200rpm drive. This seems as a smart thing to do but my problem is this: I have a rather tight budget so my options are:

1. Buy the 8005 (1.8Ghz) and upgrade to the 7200 drive.
2. Buy the 8006 (2.0Ghz) and keep the 4200 drive.

Which option should I choose?

1.8 and 7200 is what i would choose.

2 ghz is too exp. for the increase imo

given those 2 choices i would go for the 8005 with a 7200 rpm drive. BUT maybe you should wait a bit, till the PM 765 comes out, then the prices of the rest of the PM line will fall, so i'd expect the price of the 8006 model to fall to. i had the same dillema, but i decided to strech myself to get the 8006 so i can sell it better later (for 1 year aproximatly).

p.s if you didn't read any reviews of those 2 you have a link in my signature to my review of my 8006 Lmi model.

I would advise you to get the one with 1.7 Dothan - cheaperthan both and you won't be sacrificing anything.
