really loud noise!

I was listening to music through my headphones and it suddenly stopped and all that came out was a loud contineous bleep. I had just installed the memory stick drivers update. I quickly did a hard reboot and it had stopped and then it came on again after the windows startup music. The noise came out of the built in speakers after i disconnected my head phones. I quickly went into the volume controls and muted the sound. The noise stopped . Then i unchecked the mute box and the noise was gone.

Anyone ever experience this?

This just happened like 10 minutes ago. I'm currenlty playing music to see if it happens again.

I hate that a couple of times with my Compaq presario running WinME (crap

It generally happened when I listened to Audio CDs on it.

Never found an explanation. But a reboot always helped...

Well i've done some more trouble shooting and it seems that it starts making that damn noise when i put the volume up too high. Lowering the "3D Depth" in the volume controls enabled stoped the noise.

Anyone know what "3D Depth" does? So far it seems like it lowers the bass to the sound and makes it sound more hollow. I'm not sure why anyone would want that. Hopefully muting it will get rid of this problem. Thank god it wasn't my MDR-V700 headphones. Although they are getting pretty old and it's probably time i got another pair.
