I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 9100 and I want to start a new game to go along with the new Comp But I cant decide on which new MMORPGs I wanted to start... I narrowed it down to two choices though... EverQuest II or World of Warcraft... Ive heard a lot of different opinions on these two games but I havent got any input from you guys... so if you guys have any input or opinions I would greatly appreciate it

WoW - casual gamer, has a life - can play whenever he wants, can level all jobs/chars solo, no fear of grades/school/work inteferring, plenty of stuff to do like raids and so on.

EQ2 - time consuming, willing to spent alot of hours playing.

its really up to your lifestyle, if you have alot of free time and love just playing games EQ2 might be for you, i recommend wow because its the best of both words (for hardcore and casual gamers).

hmm that makes sense but other than the time consuming conflict what other attributes are there for these two games like which would have a better future or fun factor... honestly i never played EQ games before but I heard they are great... FFXI was the most recent one ive played... Thanks for the input man

Ive proven that your new I9100 can handle all the action games you throw at at as well. Does very well with COD, and UT2004.

well I played EQ for almost 3 years. I know about it's addictiveness, it's time sinks, and how Verant controls every aspect of the game, regardless in many cases to the wishes of the Player.

I also have tried Star Wars Galaxies, Verant/Sony's other MMORPG. I did so at release, and then again just this past weekend. Simply put, it's worse that EQ. I love SW, but that game is unplayable. The amount of time required to succeed in SWG is so much worse than EQ it's amazing. I played EQ 30 to 40 hours a week, and still only made it to level 51 after almost 3 years. I probably would have kept playing but my family added 2 girls in that time, and as they reached 2 and 3, it became apparent the I had to choose one or the other, and EQ lost of course.

SWG seems no different, and I would not expect Verant/Sony to change the formula much. They will want it to take years to reach the end.

As for WoW, I was able to try to stress test a couple of weeks ago. Ran beautifully. I loved the interface, how easy it is to spot an NPC you need to talk to (big huge yellow ! mark over their head, or a ? mark depending on if you are completing a quest or they have one ot offer). Fighting was easy enough, and at the early stages, you weren't expected to die from measly rats and snakes and bats hehe

As a more casual gamer now, I'd say WoW is for me. I'm actually considering it. Though the biggest hang up I have with any of the mmorpgs is the need to be on constantly to stay in touch with the friends you make and keep leveling together.

I've also played DAoC, Anarchy online, Eve, and City of Hereos, so I'm familiar with the issues they all have. I have to give Blizzard credit, the short test I had makes WoW look like the most polished, from an ease of learning perspective, and seems to be the only one not designed to make the player go to the web constantly looking for help and guides. That's nice for me.

I say all this because you might not have the same interests. But you should understand from whence my opinions come so you can make your own appropriately

I'm willing to bet they'll both be huge hits

As someone who is playing Everquest II AND World of Warcraft right now, let me set the record straight.

I've found WoW to be much faster paced than Everquest, though the depth of gameplay is not as great as Everquest II.

Performance wise, even an older machine can run WoW without any problems at a high resolution. Everquest II is much more demanding. While they have recently fixed a number of problems, I would strongly recommend that anyone looking to play should have 1GB of memory and a 7200RPM hard drive.

In terms of gameplay, I would call Everquest II a more measured game, while WoW can be frantic at times. Sony Online Entertainment is working hard to balance solo/group gameplay to allow players to advance either way.

Lastly, Everquest 2 is NOT Everquest 1. Please don't try and compare them.

WOW is the best!!! I played in stress test and it was simply amazing. That's all I have to say. And it's built for any type of gamer other than realistic gamers :\ But I'm not one so I think the game rules!!!

7200rpm hdd?? Why? It does help in game performance once the game loads. Most of your memory being used is RAM. If your using your hdd for your memory cache then your already up the creek with the slow paddle. Faster hard drive = faster load times.

I know you didn't ask about this one, but I just wanted to throw in my .02. I recently checked out the Catacombs expansion for DAOC and I am mighty impressed. I actually opened up both of my accounts again. I personally like pve more than rvr so I'm really psyched about Catacombs. Definatly going to check it out instead of jumping right on the WoW train.

I love WoW That's gonna be my time consuming, its as time consuming as EQ2 if anything

One of the main reasons I like WoW more than EQ2 is I'm a huge fan of Blizz games. I played Starcraft for years and then Warcraft 3 for years more. So I love the Warcraft universe and seeing all of my fav characters in 3D is just awesome. I almost shat me pants when I saw lvl 99 Cairne Bloodhoof on top of Thunderbluff. They say WoW doesn't have the history behind it that EQ does, but that's a huge load, the Warcraft universe was around waaay before EQ.

SOE is horrible. Recently they ganked all over a bunch of players on SWG because someone duped a bunch of credits and instead of investigating, they banned anyone with a duped credit, and this included mostly people who were /tipped without knowing it. They also treated people protesting this in game most harshly. I don't recommend any SOE game simply because of the company. I love star wars but I was ever so disappointed with Galaxies. FFXI looks pretty awesome. I would check that one out.

Definately WoW if I was picking between EQ2 and WoW..

I haved played SWG and COH in the past .(most of the above comments about these games are well deserved). WoW seems to have learned from the other MMO's mistakes that is why I would pick it.

He is trying to decide between the two. I don't think anyones recommendations are fair unless you've actually played both as Hunterzyph has done. So far he, Luke (PCT) and Captain AL have all played both..look on the game forum.. and I believe they both like EQ2 better...

I played EQ for a long time also, in a high end raiding guild, and if EQ2 is anything like EQ, you will have to spend a TON of time playing to be any good.

Also, Rogueone, Verant has not existed for quite a long time, I think the last expansion SoE released under the name of Verant was Velious.
