Regret it? - Page 3

True you have to send your system back I know someone who was kept waiting with his desktop Aurora recently who i was speaking to tonight and he is very happy, today Alienware agreed to take it back, the fault was a knackered PSU ( 450 supply ) due to them keeping him waiting 1month for a date to send it back he is getting the 650 supply installed for nothing.

So he is very happy

Show me an Area-51m that can beat an XPS's bench scores. It ain't happenin' my friend.

Oh...........Sooooooooooooo..............Sorry

I regret getting it, I don't even use it for what it is made for. I would have been better off getting another notebook. Also I can't run linux on my laptop... which kinda ticked me off.

If you go to the Alienware forums there are several people who are successfully running Linux on their laptops. They have even listed the coding needed to support native video resolutions etc.

I personally do not care about losing on benchmarks to an XPS it has dual channel RAM and the MR9800 it should beat my Area-51. Its like my friends 67 Mustang can blow the doors off my 04 DeVille but the DeVille rides nicer looks better and get better gas mileage “not by much but it does” So your XPS is just like my friends mustang and my Area-51 is just like my DeVille it has better battery life looks nicer and is better built. I do not regret buying my Area-51 at all now that I have upgraded it from the 5600go to an ATI 9700.

I'd say the XPS is like one of those newer impala SS, big, heavy, bulky, but pretty good horsepower.

The XPS is for the extreme gamer, but the Alienware 51m is for the all-around gamer. Doesnt mean the 51m is slow at games, but remember Tech TV's little segment where they said the 51m beats the XPS? A computer cant be fully judged by its benchmarks. The XPS is a great system, however the Alienware is a great all-around system.

The difference between the Area-51m and the XPS is this ... The XPS is heavy, bulky and "nose-bleed fast".The Area-51m is sleek, pretty, and definitely not a pushover in the "polygon-pushing" department, but, it's not as fast as the XPS. Thats because the Area-51m isn't in the same class as the XPS. The XPS is a true "Desktop Replacement". By the nature of it's conception, it's only purpose is speed. To say that the Area-51m is better built is mighty arrogant talk, all things considered(I mean, c'mon now, magnesium alloy???... Whats that saying exactly??? That you can drop it off a four-story building???... be my guest). I grab my XPS by it's corners and there's no flex whatsoever). The two can't be compared. So, until another true DTR comes around, the XPS is in a class of it's own(I guess I'm saying that true DTR's are heavy and ugly). And(here's the best part), the damn thing is CHEAPER than the Area-51m!!!...(hmm, tough decision here...let me think???). To regret buying an Alienware???... I'd regret it.

ps: I'm not here to stir the pot... I was posting threads on this particular post before I recieved my XPS. Like I said, I came within 12 hours of having an Area-51m shipped to me before I changed my mind. That close to paying a 15% restocking fee!

Self evident truths...

The problem with comparing Alienware and Dell is the wall that AW fans run into and thats Darwin's theory of evolution. Dell is the giant of the pc industry and is rapidly racing with Gateway to establish dominance in the highly lucrative and oft-unappreciated pc gaming market. These corporate behemoths will eventually gobble up most, if not all, of the smaller boutique companies as they can afford to cut profits by flooding the market with cheap systems and drive the smaller firms out of business. It's the capitalist doctrine in its most pure form; the wal-marting of America, if you will. What gets lost in all of this is quality as we bow to proprietary brands who pimp rigs that have been built by the lowest bidder. Dell is right there in the mosh pit of cheap commercialism with K-mart and Target and they are HUGE because we have sold out on quality to save a few bucks... No since conception Dell has been gunning for Alienware. Voodoo and Sager because of how much attention these companies have received in the DTR market. The XPS is more powerful because it is the new kid on the block just like you. Now go to the Dell forums and talk with people that want to here about your brick The topic of this thread is do your regret buying an Area-51m and you do not have one so why do you feel the need to participate in it. Or do you just wish to come in here to tell people how fast your XPS is. You are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Coooooooooooooooooooooool man can I be your friend pretty pleas.

I thought of Tech TV the XPS beat the 51m by a very small margin? The XPS ran a game (not sure which one) at 80 FPS, he 51m did 77.5 FPS,microscopic difference

Someone should archive this thread so we can see how silly it all looks about 12 months from now.

Well..

I am a very happy XPS owner with the MR9800. But guess what, I like the Alienware Area-51m also. To me it is a toss up. Power Vs. Style and Beauty and somewhat less power. I mean not matter what the 9700 and Go5600 cannot compare to the mr9800. Not even close. And the 1920x1200 resolution must be seen to be appreciated. And also, while true the magnesium alloy is stunning, I as many XPS owners installed the new mr9800 card ourselves, and I can tell you the engineering on the XPS's internals is excellent. I mean I was impressed to see every connector inside has a pull tab so you do not damage to ribbon connector. Things like that show that Dell is trying to improve their engineering. The XPS is King in the DTR category right now. Read the Latest Maximum PC 3D magazine review. However, that being said, nothing looks as cool as the Alienware, and my solution, buy them both. hehe
Seriously, I will get one within the next few months. I love MY XPS, but am intrigued by the Alienware. Hey this is America. Save your $ and get both if you like. I say, either way, you cannot go wrong.

Laptops sure have come a long way.

I am starting to regret it now. i was suppose to receive my 51m a week ago and everytime I call Alienware, I get a different response. The rep tells me a different story and tells me the last person was mis-informed. So I have no idea why my computer has shipped, but only wish I had my 51m. I am leaning more and more to cancelling my order due to the really bad customer service.

Yes, you are exactly right...The AW is very intriguing(its the whole alien thing i think).Thats what the appeal was for me anyway.Until I did a little more research and found out where my $$$ would go the furthest for me.I dont care what kinda wall-martie, commercial, conspiracy crap you tag on it, the Dell is Kick-ass in all aspects, A solid performer and solidly built.
