According to benchmarks and testing, the Mobility Radeon 9800 performs in the vicinity between the Desktop 9800 Pro and the XT, so it would outperform a desktop 9600, of any flavor, by a good margin.

Really?.... ummmm I simply didnt think so. LOL Crazy me..?

ATI 9600 Radeon PRO is usually compared to MR9700, so MR9800 should be notisably faster.

If you look at the 3kmark05 scores posted a few places around the boards, and the scores posted by our members with 9800's, you will see this to be true. You can also compare your mobile 9800 to the other cards in the project search and compare feature on the futuremark website.

I cant say 3Dmark is really a reliable source for comparing system specs try using Aquamark or Doom3 Timedemo

simply put, 9600 is 4 pipeline, mr9800 (based on x800 architechure remember) is 8 pipeline. that alone makes it noticably faster

and the 9600 pro 256mb version is nothing but a mr9700 with 256 ram. The 9700 mobility IS a 9600XT straightup, unlike the mr9800 which is a custom x800. And the mr9800 is benching almost double what the mr9700 benches.

So simply put, there is no comparison, the mr9800 will wipe the floor with any flavor 9600

Well all I can say is WOW for the MR9800
After seeing my neighbors MR9800 w/256 running farcry and doom3 as smooth as butter I can only say it is nearly as fast as my 9800 pro.
I want one now

Awesome, i think I'm gonna bench mine against his comp when he gets his machine all put together. Hopefully this weekend His 9600 should be able to outclock a MR9800 right (by means of overclocking)?
maybe, about the overclock with liquid systems, but people have been getting high benchmarks with their overclocked MR9800s though they are limited due to the fact that temps have to be watch closely because we can only use fans and no liquid cooling

here's the 3dmark 05 thread which shows peoples benchmarks and oc marks too

Plus, MR9800's MEMORY interface(NOT memory SIZE) is 256bit wide while MR9700/9600 is 128bit and MR9800 has FOUR Vetrex pipes vs MR9700/9600's TWO

Well as a matter of fact I had a 256MEG 9600 PRO on my desktop, and now I'm playing with my XPS with it's 256 mr9800 and without any numbers, I can tell you that there's no even comparisons possible. The mr9800 is just tremendously more powerful.

Sorry for the lack of numbers, but a simple human perception can also be a good mesurement. :-)

yeah, there's no way that's even a fair comparison. also, you can OC an mr9800 nearly 100MHz maybe more, if you plan to do so for only a short time like a benchmark. I'm running up at 435/330 and haven't had any heat issues. runs smooth as glass

so all in all the MR9800 has the similar comparison to what desktop card? 9800 pro or better?

The 9800 Pro is probably the closest card to compare MR9800 to.
