Yo

What's the difference between a Pc (Windows) and an Apple (Macintosh)?
Are Mac's even good performers/powerful like pc's?
...

Thx

Both PC's and Macs are personal computers, the two main differences are the operating systems, PC's run Windows or Linux Macs run Apples OS X. Another difference is that Apple makes their own hardware, you will not find the Mac OS X operating system on any other hardware companies PC's, only on Apples own Macintosh computers.
As far as performance Apple has made great strides recently when they switched to IBM's G5 processor. When it comes to gaming PC's have the Mac beat, but for other applications it's definitely a horserace between both platforms.

If I have a P4 3Ghz in my pc, does Mac have a comparable processor?

yes, they also have one that'lll beat it.

go to apple.com and check out their comps

It's all up to what you wanna do with it.

Check out the Apple Dual 2Ghz, that machine rocks.

My next one will be an Apple notebook, when the G5 comes out, for my needs Apple is perfect, no need to go any longer through the pain of windows

The fastest processor Apple currently has is the dual 2.5GHz G5. The dual 1.8GHz G5 Powermac is probaby at least as fast as your 3.0GHz P4 if not faster. Apple utilizes dual processors in their Powermac line as OS X is optimized for dual processors.
G5 Powerbooks probably will not be out before the second half of 2005, there are heat issues with the G5 proceesor that Apple still has not resolved. There will probably be a G4 upgrade to the Powerbooks soon bringing it up to 1.8GHz.

The disscussion does not make any sence unless you specify the tasks you are going to do.

G5 Powerbooks won't be out for a while. With the announcement of dual core G4 chips, those would be a better option than a single core G5. They'd actually be faster.

Mr. White...Macs are not better at graphics and audio. At one time they were, but now PCs are just as good. It's all just matter of preference, and compatibility as to which platform you choose.

There is a lot of misconceptions in here regarding MAC's. Like Kakaze said, they are not better at anything any more, and have struggled recently to keep pace.

The only thing that could be argued as better on an Apple, is reliabilty, especially on the software level, where OSX thrives. It doesn't suffer from OS Decay like windows does, or at least not as bad.

The cpu is great. I really wish it was available for PCs as well :> As to the most other hardware, like graphics cards and hard drives (?), they use the same stuff as anybody else.

That's the gist of it, guys. Macs can have a highly optimized OS because of the hardware homogeneity.

Anyway, I've seen Windows photoshop benchmarks that trounce those in OSX. Adobe said a while back that they'll be focusing more on optimizing for the Windows platform. I guess it shows.

agreed. On certain tasks, mac is better. On other tasks, PCs are better. Hard to tell which one is faster overall because its like comparing apples(no pun intended) and oranges.

Mac= professional use

Pc= gaming and proffesional of course

Crazy as it seemed Jobs decided long ago, to keep most programmers (except his hand chosen picks) from getting access to the internals of the apple op sys. No wonder Apple is only 5 % of the market. IBM/Intel/Microsoft practically gave the internals away to programmers (like me) and it is now no surprise that PCs are over 90% of the market.

Apple has a superior and very refined system
BUT HARDLY NOBODY WRITES CODE FOR IT.

well remember one major factor.. no spyware and virii for the mac.. i'm sure it will come but it is going to take some time for it to become as widespread of a problem as in the windows side.

I use both but for my primary personal use machine I use a powerbook. It is as fast as my ibm r40 (centrino based) at work and faster when working with audio apps..

The reason I personally chose a mac to use primarily is reliability. I'm in IT as a profession and the last thing i want to do at home is troubleshoot anything, or worry.. the key benefit to MACs and OS X is the fact that most of the time you just turn it on and do what you want..

While my pc runs well since i know what the hell I am doing.. i can't say it is UNreliable.. but it is still less reliable.. little bull**** problems like file copy freezes occasionally from my NAS.. also, there is no way i can use a windows machine for a day without rebooting.. not if i am doing more then email and web.. my mac gets rebooted about once a week.. and that's just me doing it to do it.

Finally I will say this.. for major application support they are pretty even. But for a ton of shareware and cap I will personally never use.. there is more for windows.

That said, konfabulator works better then desktopX you should check out konfabulator.com just a cool little app... something very similar is coming with the next OS X release.
