I made a mirror for the new 5690 bios that fixes video playback issues. So don't bother emailing Sager tech support for it. I have no bandwidth limit.

Download here

The official "instructions" I received is....

Quote:
unzip the files in windows to a clean floppy diskette,
then clean boot to the drive A run autoexec.bat update the bios.
You need make a bootable disk from win98.
Please delete all the files on the boot disk except the IO.SYS, the MSDOS.SYS and the COMMAND.COM.
Use AC power to process the BIOS update, after finish the BIOS update, boot into BIOS and laod the default setting.

AFTER UPDATE THE BIOS, NEED COLD BOOT THE NOTEBOOK, AND GO INTO THE BIOS, LOAD THE DEFAULT SETTING.
you're welcome

Thanks Amir. Just curious, does anyone know if I need to talk to Sager about this first to keep my warranty intact? I know some companies (Alienware for one), you need to call first before update.

Anyone know about Sager???

Make a win98 bootdisk.

Delete everything except for IO.SYS, MSDOS.SYS and COMMAND.COM. (If you can't see these files, you need to go to tools->folder options->views in windows explorer, and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)").

Extract contents of archive to bootdisk.

Boot computer with bootdisk.

Follow on screen instructions. (i.e. press a key to continue....)

Shut down after it is done.

On first boot after, enter the BIOS setup (press F2 at bios screen) and load the default settings.

After that... have fun?

my video playback was screwed up too.

Didn't think it was a hardware issue. interesting.

thought my windows just needed a typical rebuild.

Xp pro
non sp2
Latest omegas.

I can watch video, I just need to turn off DX acceleration in the video properties. Pain in the arse.

Unfortunately, no floppy at the moment in my dorm. Argh!
