Dual-Layer DVD burning

Hello everyone,
As most of you know, Sager is now offering Dual-Layer DVD burners in their notebooks and I was wondering how you use them? I understand that with Dual Layer you can now copy DVDs without compression, but are there any DVD ripping programs that don't compress the data? I recently ordered my 4750 and I'd like to take advantage of this feature without wasting a few pricy DL DVD-Rs. Thanks

Also the latest version of DVDShrink has an option where you set what kind of DVD media you're burning to. single layer or dual layer.

Can't you just use a disc copy program? Or you could copy AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS directories to hard disk and then burn them to a DL disc.

If copying DVD's was that simple, there wouldn't be a whole hoard of programs to rip and burn.

DVD Decrypter

DVD Decrypter is a good app for this job: http://www.dvddecrypter.com/

You can buy the dual layer burners now forlaptops and desktop machines. Too bad the media STILL isn't available widely. Ad what you can find - $15 a pop.

I want dual layer, but I'm still waiting until the cost comes down.

I think it is more like $12 a disk, but that is still way to much. The MPAA is probubly paying them to keep the price up, which is too bad. I noticed that Ritek is making them now so it shouldn't be to long before compition starts.

I am sick of the speed bump game too. I just baught 100 8x DVD at a good price and now they come out with 16x. the only good news is that my Sony burner only needs a firmware update for 16x speed.

I make and copy my own DVDs that manner. I'm a semi-professional DVD producer.

It just doesn't seem like doing a simple copy and paste would result in the layer change being in exactly the same spot, but if so, I stand corrected. Also aren't some DVD-9's up to 9.6 GB while the blank Dual Layer DVD's are slightly less?

The only problem I can see in copying commercial DVDs is that they may contain more data than blank consumer DVDs. However, if their data capacity is below the DL disc capacity (8.5 GB), there should be no problem.

dvd decrypter and dvd shrink can both rip

with dvd shrink you can rip, rip and compress, or re-author rip and/or compress

dvd shrink is free and probably the best program of its type available

i rarely use dvd decrypter except for discs with scratches or discs hard to read
