Bought an HP, should I have?

Howdy all. There was no HP forums, so I wrote on this one since I owned an emachines. After my hinge cracking again I took my M6809 laptop back and they allowed me credit towards another. I bought an HP Model: zx5280us. I was just curious if any of you had any experience with HP's laptops and if they are worth it? It cost me 550$ more then the M6809 did, but it came with a full gig of ram and also a 128 meg ATI 9600 radion vid card. I thought with those two featues, plus they gave me the rebates to send in, it might be worth the extra 350 after rebates. The only drawback that I seen was the price and the 4200rpm HD. It hasn't arrived yet (was shipped from one store to another), so I was just curious if people have good or horror stories when dealing w/ HP laptops.

Thanks

I have only had 1 HP laptop, and thankfully it has had no problems.

However, I have had a few desktops in the past. I must admit, I have never had a problem with the actual computers, however I have had two problems with monitors.

The first time was about 9 months after purchase. I phoned up HP Customer Services and they simply asked me to check a few things and then arranged for the monitor to be changed. They told me to pack up the old monitor and a new one would be with me the very next day before 12pm.

The very next day a private courier came out, gave me the new monitor and took the broken one away, no hassle.

The second time it broke down, it was just over 5 months out of warranty. I phoned them up again, expecting them to tell me how much it would be to get fixed and instead they stated that they expect thier products to last at least a decent amount of time and as 1yr 5 months was not up to standard, they sent me a refurbished monitor out, the very next day and by private courier again.

So buying HP products (at least in the UK) has proved to be a very nice experience for me. Their aftersales support is tremendous, although it can sometimes be a bit hard to navigate their phone systems to the right department (They will send you back and fourth sometimes).

I personally do not think that you have made a mistake.

Cool. Thanks for the reply. I left to buy it rather quickly, so I didn't get a chance to read any reviews beforehand. I was really impressed with the performance of the emachines, but the problems with the display and also the cracking did me in. I think the specs on this new laptop is pretty good for the price after the rebates. I hope I get as positive an experience as you have gotten from HP if I have to go through the tec support.

I tried the HP zt3000. It seemed like a good, solid notebook with a very nice screen. I returned it because I had no need for a notebook, at that time, not due to any problems with the quality. The one you bought is quite thick and heavy, but I'm sure it'll be a good machine.
